Do any of you out there cut your own christmas tree from your own property? Have your tree up yet? I have my plastic tree probably made in China up for almost a week. When the kids were still living at home I would buy a real tree. I got tired of looking for the best tree on tht lot, and after getting it home it looked like crap. Also save about 50.00 bucks every year. Stan

Went out yesterday and cut 2 white pines from the back of our property that we bought in 2004. I tell the kids these are the PRICIEST trees around (LOL Hope to use the property for more than that someday. )They're far from the perfect Christmas tree shape, but once the decorations are on, I'm sure they'll look pretty good.

We wanted to downsize to just 1 this year but youngest daughter (who does all the decorating) insisted on one in the foyer, too. Next year, she'll be in college, so only 1 tree will be sacrificed.third party image Years ago, used to do what others mentioned. All the brothers/sisters would get their kids and we'd make a day of it at a cut-your-own farm, then end up at our house for pizzas afterward. Lots of memories, but time marches on, families go their own ways. Can't imagine ever getting an artificial tree. Next phase, I'd like to get a smaller tree off of the property and put it in a pot for the holidays, then transplant it back in the spring.

we always had fakes ones growing up, mostly because my mom was allergic to vaccuum cleaners! Anyway, we always have a real one now, we go out to a farm, select one, cut it down, drag it to the car, haul it home, set it up, drink some hot chocolate, watch the cats try to climb it, set it back up, tie it to the strairs so the cats don't knock it over agian, then decorate it. I'd never do it any different.

We have one of those 3 Piece prewired with clear lights type trees. Takes longer to get it out of Storage than it does to set it up.Been thru the cut your own deal,or the Tree Lot pick what is left deal and even early on when we were cash poor going to the timber and finding a nice Cedar to bring Home. Present one is no mess and simple to set up,even I have mastered how to do it. Happy Holidays from Arizona JC.

Since we are just building our first house now, we haven't had a tree of our own yet. Always have been with our parents for Christmas... Hoping that after Christmas this year a nice fake tree will be on sale.

After seeing a video or two of a tree going up in flames, I'm more interested in the safety of my family.

I haven't had a tree for years but I do a couple of trees out in the yard. Super K mart had the LED lights again and I bought five strings to do the one tree. Cost was over $35.00 but WOW do they look good! They are very bright and the color is very clean and clear. Best looking tree on the block. The colors are very pure without the orange that you get from the twinkle lights. Go check them out . Jeffcat

For several years we would go in a group and cut trees. Had a big pot luck afterward. That was a lot of fun.

People got old and stopped going, kids moved away so we started buying trees on the lot.

This year we finally went plastic. Hope we don't regret it.

The times they are a changin.

Today I helped load a 40 ft. trailer with about 400 Xmas trees ready to ship to California for rich folks to buy.
I have a small lot here that I sell a few from each year for $15 you don't get much for trees in the area where you can see thousands of them being cut to send out each year.
I got to say one thing its darn hard on an old guy (69) to be loading trees in the truck just to please some kids in California but I guess its all worth it.

For years, I used to just grab a tree and some extra boughs. Used a spade bit and drilled holes in the trunk . Whittled the boughs down and plugged them in.Sap will act as a glue and you can't hardly pull them out. Always had a great looking tree that way and didn't pay an arm and a leg for a select tree. My grabbin and pluggin days are over. The wife bought a plastic tree last year.Smeller quit workin so I don't miss havin a real tree.

MSB, I did the same thing for years. I think the
"plugged-in" branches stayed fresh just as long as the originals, too. Something like "making a silk purse out of a Sow's ear". LOL

Mama put the plastic tree up tonite. We went to plastic last year. The real tree from the year before...what can I say. When I took that thing out and burned it,it went up like an oil fire. Never saw one burn so fast. Scared the bat crap out of me. I'm too darned old to start over after a fire.

I"m usually pretty open to other"s views, but this one hits close to home. We"ve been growing trees since the late sixties, with the third generation taking a part in the daily activities. The farm has been in our family since the 1830"s, and this keeps it off auction block. We"ve had literally hundreds of kids and young guys work here in the past, and many stop back at harvest to help out, bringing their kids. I"m not saying that artificial trees don"t have their place in the world, but I"m positive I"ve done it the right way for a long time now, and haven"t lined the coffers of foreign competition with my renewable resource.

We had a balled and burlaped tree one year because I could'nt see spending that much on something I was going to throw out. That's when we dicovered my wife is allergic to pine trees. So we've had a fake one for 12 years.

We cut a cedar tree from our cedar swamp. No needles, nice smell, cheap! Was looking for one during hunting season, from the blind on the hill - didn"t decide on this years victim. They always look better from a distance, than close up.

I came home from a sale with one of those blue telephone insulators with some frosting and a small light bulb inside it. I set it between two geraniums in the bay window. It looks real pretty to me. Nahh, If I put up a tree I'd have to take it down. And clean up the mess. I'm gonna humbug Christmas this year....again.

You sound like me. I remember when I was a kid we drove out into the country side looking for pines growing under the powerlines. We got out chose one and cut it down. None looked anywhere near as nice as those farm grown trees do but it felt special to me to have to hunt for one that would do. My folks went plastic may years ago. I have a 3' plastic tree that some years I bring down and put on the table in the living room. It's already decorated. I just put a bag over it decorations, lights and all when Christmas is over and put it back in the attic. Haven't decided if I want to clear the table off and bring it down this year or not. I just never could get my mind around going to a tree lot and hunting through so many identical trees. P.S. Christmas starts way too early. I'll consider decorating in about 2 more weeks.

and also save the needles from falling on your rugs. This bothers me to death with the type of rug that I have.

Yeah, I got a tiny 'lil chinese tree,a nd i'm gonna decorate it with my chinese lights and my chinese ornaments. Maybe i'll get lucky and find some chinese wrapping paper to wrap my familie's chinese gifts.

Merry chinese christmas, everyone.
