I have 8 Ford Cylinder sleeves used for all 85 H.P.
engines originally equipped with steel cylinder sleeves. Part No. 11A-6055-B. They are in origin
boxes. They are for sale if anyone needs them or
can use them.

Was told, when a lot of the 85 and 85+ h.p. were still common, that one year in the 1940 to 1948 period there was a casting manufacturing goof. Rather than scrap a lot of blocks, Ford turned them out with sleeves on one bank and not on the other bank.

In the early 60's, in a Denver suburb they raced 3/4 Midgets. The main sources of power were the Ford 60, Ferguson tractor engine and an Offanhauser (sp) engine. Am guessing a displacement max was the reason something bigger was not used.

I have the bare block from a 1937 60 h.p. in my iron pile.

the bore is smaller than the 9n tractor engine. find an old midget race mecanic or check with old car restorers they may be of some help that is old lot's of luck.

Ford had 6 cyl. flatheads too. Ford made a 6 cyl. 254 often used as a power unit.

I had a friend from long ago who used to Hot Rod an old flat head ford...

He said you could bore the 239 V-8 out to 301 Cu In..to compete with the Chevys, and they ran good.

Must have been too...he had the High School Ind. Arts class machine the flywheel down..it ended up with NO ring gear and he had to roll-start it.! Was Great listening to him tell about that one...his eyes sure would light up..!!

One of my co-workers had a 1940 Ford with the 85 or 90 hp engine that lost a piston and they sleeved it. He later joined the Army when WW2 broke out. He's in his late 80's now. He had a farm too and sold the house and barn, but kept most of the acreage.

I have seen sleeves for the ford 60 motors on ebay in the past. I have one that needs a sleeve also. I don't know what I am going to do with the motor. Dad was going to scrap it. I saved it from the scrap iron pile. Stan

Don"t scrap that little V860 before doing some checking around...while they weren"t very good at hauling sedans around they"re much in demand by boaters and lots of other tinkerers, or at least were awhile back...

I don,t intend to scrap the motor. I have had it for almost 35 years. I read a article about someone who put one in a indian four cylinder motorcycle frame. I thought I would like to try it. At my age I probably never get the chance I already have too many projects to finish in my lifetime. Stan

No sleeves, but you probably have enough iron to bore it out. A repair sleeve could probably be used if a cylinder has significant scoring

Flathead V8s not sleeved normally as I remember. V8-60 might have enough bore thickness for repair sleeve, have heard of restored cars getting a sleeve or 2. V8-60 small bore used to be raced in 'small' engine class, English Fords sometimes had them for lower vehicle tax- tax was based on bore size. RN

I never worked on a 60 hp, but I don't recall the 85's being sleeved. I could be wrong, it's been over 50 years. The last flathead I owned was a '52 Merc, and I never had to tear it down.

That would be a V-8 60 at 2.60 bore x 3.20 stroke. They came out in 37 so it is not correct for a 35.
The 59A block came out in 46. Still stumble over my assorted flathead speed equipment and parts including V-12 Zephyr stuff.

I had a '35 I restored and it weren't no 60 horse, as stated below, the 60's came out in 1937, someone may have put a 60 in a '35 but it ain't the right engine for a '35

I never saw a 60 Horse power in 1935? I have seen a lot of them in 1937 and worked on a lot of them and they were not worth the time to repair when new. The 1940 fords were sleved and were steel and you could take them out and use a Merc piston as the bore was already honed. Have did a lot of them for the stock cars. I think it was the 59A block in both ford and Merc. I'm 84 years old now and started working on cars in 1939. Still love fast cars and have a 1995 Impala SS that is hot:)
