Kinda in response to a few of the replies on ol Teddy earlier

Everyone on here is very down to earth. We voice our opinions to eachother and for the most part all agree, but we dont shout loud enough. If we want have any chance of making things change we NEED to let our elected senators know. He who yells loudest gets noticed most. Right now our values are being pushed down because others are yelling louder. I am posting the wed address so any one reading this can find their representative and tell them how we feel. Talking on here is about as far as most of us go, and thats why nothing will change. So here you go, contacting out government and let them know what matters, because you can be darn sure that we are the silent majority, we need to be the heard majority, voting them doesnt make a difference, demanding they represent us accuratly and honestly does will make a difference! Send an email, make a call, write a letter, and encorage EVERYONE you know to do the same.

Although the senators were to be chosen by the respective state legislatures, the President was to be elected by the electoral college, not the general public. The reasoning was that the electoral college would be composed of appointed members of society from each State, of good character and intelligence. (No member of Congress or federal officeholder was allowed, to prevent partisanship) The election of the President was far too great a responsibility to allow the general public to hold. Maybe the framers had this one right.

You might want to review your knowledge of civics just a tad.

Dave, we would have 12-20 (actually more like 50)million new US citizens today if it hadn't been for people like you calling, writing, fax'n their congressman and senators.

Hopefully the American people are starting to wake up and realize they can't just send someone off to Washington DC and then forget about him or her.

They will do what we send them there to do, if enough people keep reminding them what it is they're there for.

Here's something to think about too. I heard a guy on the radio a month or so ago who wanted to repeal the 17th ammendment and have Senators appointed instead of elected as the constitution originally called for. Said that way they wouldn't be beholding to anybody in Washington. They would only answer to the states. Whadaya think? Make sense?

And they would be appointed by whom?

The constitution originally called for Senators to be appointed by Governors and aproved by state legislatures. So,get a new governor, you probably get a new Senator or two as well. It puts the power in Washington closer to home anyway. I have to think the founding fathers had a reason for setting things up that way. It's becoming more aparent all the time what that reason was.

Dave, you can email, write, and talk until you are blue in the face, but you will get little action out of our elected polititions. The way our current American capitalistic government systems works is "money talks". If you want your congressman to react you have to hand him/her a plain white envelope stuffed with $100 bills. That is what lobbyists do. That is what business does. Even local elected officials are on the take, most bought by the gas/oil production companies. You want a local judge to rule in your favor, you have to pay him. Sad state of affairs, but that is how our system works. Tom

I know this isn't the political forum, but we all need to make our views known to our elected folks. The squeaky wheel does seem to get the grease, and it's important.

In all seriousness, Dave, I think YOU should run for office. I'd sure as heck vote for you.
