Here is my 1958 7-foot 30 combine and grandpa's 1967 4020. Running double-crop soybeans with the wheat straw near Lafayette, IN. This was about a month ago but I finally got aroung to plugging it into the computer.

The first grain sample (pictured) wasn't too bad at all but it continually got worse after that. I closed the bottom sieve gradually every time I dumped until the tailings clogged up but I kept getting more unthreashed pods. I guess the beans were just getting tougher? Started around 3:30 and finished about 5-6 PM with about 1 hour of light left abd had done roughly 5 acres. New rasp bars, about half of the smaller belts and possibly a few bearings are in order before we run it next time.

Sorry on the limited pictures, I was a 1-man photography & driver crew that day.

Thanks for looking

Don't know what your problem is for sure, but if those hulls are unthreshed, you might try more cylinder speed. If they are threshed, you have to much air on the fan. Hope this helps, never had this kind of result from my old Allis 60.

Good to see that. I had 30 at one time. Good rugged machine, did well on beans. I would say you needed more air to get the pods out, but the sample you showed looks prteey good.

Wow, great to see the pics. I just finished restoring a #25 combine and really enjoyed it. When I figure out how to download photos I will get some on the forum. That 4020 is really a good looking machine, too. I don't know how anyone farmed without one of those!

That 4020 isn't quite as pretty as the pictures show. 100% original, never painted, added turbo, front of hood all banged up from being an 11,000+ hour tractor that has never been rebuilt. Pretty sweet tractor to me. Grandpa bought it almost brand new. Used to farm with a '66 & a '67. Still have the '67, 2nd loader though!

Glad to see the old girl working again, and that you take the time to give her some exercise. I've seen much worse samples out of much newer combines. I would like to find one myself to play with. Chris
