Well its Nov. 25 and I saw geese fling south. Latest I have ever seem them in this area. Guess the weather is really messed up. Most years you see them about a month ago but not this year.

Saw a large raft of them this morning- probably 300- flying NORTH! I think the goose population is in disarray- It's either global warming, or simply Bush's fault. . .

I remember never seeing any locally 70's mid 80's, but at some point thereafter, the beaver helped flood a 20 acre marsh area here, was just a creek and soft ground, now a pond over 6 feet deep. They migrate from the north and several thousand stay in this area, sometimes that entire pond is full, they'll stay until it ices over, then leave. The snow geese used to arrive in October, but they have not been by yet, and in northern NY a few weeks ago, the waterfowl hunting was not good at all, not cold enough to start the migration thing or who knows what, 2 friends were shut out up there by lake champlain.

In the spring, we get local ones now and they are the real problems like most places they occupy, can't use the fields surrounding the water, they eat everything you plant. I'm going to have a war with them when I re-plant a strip of clover this spring.

Take the breast meat off, they're not bad on the grill, some are tougher than others.

You see them leaving? Wish we could get rid of 'em. Blasted things haven't left Michigan to fly south in 15 years!

if they are not migrating, they are probably giant canada geese. it is a subspecies of the canada goose, the one that migrates. from what i read about em, they were an endangered species up in the north east coast. well, some goody two shoes thought it would be a good idea to transplant them elsewhere. now they are everywhere.

More year round geese than people here in MN.

And the wood ducks leave but the greenheads stick around.

Year around geese here in SC too. The game dept. brought them in a few years ago but forgot to tell them they were supposed to migrate. Some have referred to them as rats with feathers.

Overgrown starlings in my estimation. They stay here in eastern KY year round. They were so filthy at the local state park (Greenbo), they had to close the swimming area and build a pool.

They might be a good source of bio-diesel.....cook 5 gallons of grease of every one of them from what I hear.
