That has ever left the unloading auger on after emptying the bin on a combine and headed back down the rows, and only realized it after one whole round??? 11 hours in that machine today and no issues, then I did that, I quit and went home for the day. Bad part is it wasnt mine, was running it for a friend. I am assuming I "dumped"40-60 bushels, gosh I feel like an a$$!

No, you're not the only one. I left the unloading auger on doing soybeans with my 9400. Went probably 20 rods before noticed it was on. Figured it cost me $200 to $300. A neighbor left his 6600 auger on for 1/2 mile; that was really expensive. Makes one feel really stupid.

One of the great advantages of those Massey 750s I used to run was that in use the unloading auger was so noisy and vibrated so much it was impossible not to notice it was engaged. That was just one of the many convenience and comfort items Massey built into those machines. I feel bad for the people that have only used new combines, they may never know the satisfaction of wearing out a greese gun.

I'm sure it was older, smaller equipment correct? Imagine how much corn you would've spilled if you were running a combine with a 12-row corn head or a 35 ft. bean head. I always worried about that in the back of my mind, but running newer equipment you've always got something beeping and squawking at you to remind you. I DID overfill the grain tank more than once and spilled more than my share of corn. Like momma always said, "No use crying over spilled...corn." : )

Welcome to the club. Membership is free and a lot of members. Guess my worse was an open door on a gravity box facing the opposite way from me and i dumped a 180 bushel of wheat in the thing. I didn"t notice until i finished the next round. Oh it was along the road too. I didn"t go into the local watering hole for a week. This was 10 years ago. Some neighbors have a long memory.

Read a front page picture in the paper today. Paving company driver raised the bed of the dump truck a little so the water would drain out. Forot to lower it and he caught a power line. The line laid the truck right on its side. It looked to be a newer Pete in beautiful condition.

Same thing happened to me with ear corn. Also when using a NI Uni combine with a bin extender.

I left the door open on the gravity box picking ear corn one time. Picked a whole round before I realized it.

Just say you did it on purpose to help support the local wildlife. May be a good spot to start the deer hunt from.

I did it ONCE when I was a kid. I don't think my dad ever found out; only me and the hired man driving the truck knew. I tilled the summer fallow the next year, so nobody else saw the strip of volunteer wheat across the field. And yes, I felt terrible and I still feel bad about it 30+ years later.

I did it with a JD 55 in wheat. I left the door at the bottom of the clean grain elevator open and made two rounds. Couldn't believe what a lousy yield was coming from this nice field, then Dad showed up with the truck and pointed at this row of wheat on the ground. I was lower than a snake turd the rest of the day.

Just did it this year, 6 rows, 200 bu corn for 1/8 mile. Saw a faint yellow path when I turned around at the opposite end and wondered what the heck had happened. I had just got mad after dumping for a few seconds in a gravity wagon which had the door slightly ajar, although I had specificially asked that the door be checked/closed since we were moving at a pretty good clip. It was a two wagon hitch and the first wagon was OK. I was filling the second wagon from the opposite side and didn't see that the door was slightly cracked open until five-six bushels were on the ground. Shut the door and stomped around for awhile knowing it was going to be a lot of work cleaning that mess up, since I would scrape the ground. Always throw the villainous corn either into the back of the combine thru the sieves or just into the combine throat. Was so engrossed/mad about the extra work created, that I unfortunately forgot to disengage the unloader. Always check to see how the tank is filling since last year's experience, but this time I was too distracted to do a thorough job. Did check to make sure that corn was going in, but not again to see the accumulation. Decided to fume and fuss the half-round instead, and paid dearly for my negligence. Didn't attempt to clean it up, the deer received an early Thanksgiving. Last year after setting the combine and continuing on the first round, a bolt came out of the rock trap and let the door fly open. Although the corn was pretty poor on the ouside rows near the timber line, I still didn't understand why so little corn was being delivered to the tank. Pondered the issue trying to decide what possibly could be wrong rather than stopping which was a bad mistake. At the first sharp corner I backed up slightly and saw the yellow path in the middle of the combine. It took three of us five hours to pick up the 250 linear yards of corn, and then run it thru the combine.

A friend will be understanding about the whole thing. He might bring it up from time to time at a bar. Just so that you can both laugh about it.

Didn't do that one.

Combine unloading auger on the 510 barely clears the top of the 500bu wagon--if you park the wagon in low ground and carefully put just the end of the auger over the wagon. Yep, you guessed it-we pulled the wagon and combine apart too quickly, had to stop and completely replace the horizontal section of the auger. Ouch.

Also have forgotten to put back the cleanout trapdoors on the bottom of the grain tank. Didn't notice until I went to unload after 2 rounds.

If you really wanna get that grain, you can do it if you can pull a wagon behind your grain vac and stick the intake side down at the ground. Vac will blow must of the dirt out as it goes. Hard part is keeping the discharge chute over the wagon. Then just drive over the yellow line like it's a planter mark.

Can't say that I have left the auger on but have run a round with the screens pluged up with snow. About the same result, all the corn on the ground.Never told my brother about that, couldn't do anything about it anyway.

No,you arent.Back in 2004 in some 155 BPA corn I shelled 4 rows for 1/4th mile on my 1420 IH with the unloading auger on.When I turned around to head back I wondered what that yellow strip was!! I lost about 50 bushels of corn.At least it was only $2 per bushel back then.

That is like not putting the plug in the Bulk Milk Tank after a pic up, or the plug under the Transfer Pump on the milker. BTDT mor than onced, and the older you get the more likely it is to happen.
