Can you negotiate it in the price? Would be cheaper for you and might help them get a bigger sale. Dave

I would defenitely do it. You are already spending $80,000 dollars, what is the difference in $83,000 when you really think about it. I would make sure you put the 2000 hours on it in a two year time frame though. If you are only going to use it for 250 hours a year it may not be worth doing.

In addition to all said below , I would check to see if THEY are the ones warranteeing it or if they are purchasing , with your money, a warrantee from an independent warrantee or insurance company. If they are just purchasing you a warrantee , then I would definately NOT do it. These company,s are the biggest rip-off artists going. Just try to file a claim to one of them. They have enough fine print about "abuse" and "neglect" that if you are lucky enough to get past that , then you can fight them about using used parts to do the repairs. Then if that aint enough , check out the deductables and other conditions in the policy. Make sure the dealer himself is covering it and get the details in writing or save your money.

I always think about the cost of the warranty vs. the cost of a major component failure during the warranty period.

In the case of the last vehicle I bought, the extended warranty cost just about as much as a replacement engine or transmission so I felt it was not worth it.

Talk to the previous owner and see if you can get records of any warranty work already completed. Chances are, if it's already had irregular problems they will continue...

The dealers around here would offer there own warranty without the charge.

3 years ago I purchsaed a 2 year old tractor with 1200 hours on it.

They gave me a one year 50/50 parts and labor warranty at no extra charge.

1 year and 300 hours after I purchased it the head gasket blew. They said that should have never happened and they paid the whole bill.

I have never purchased a extended warranty on anything and have never wished I would have.

Ken, I think before I'd make a comitment to an extended warranty I'd talk to the former owner. I spent 35 yrs in the warranty business and in most case's it;s to the dealer benefit, because he know the condition of that tractor ! Just my .02 Cents worth..... Jim in N M

I can remember when any new product would have a good warranty or the retail dealer who sold was as good as the warrenty. Any more you don't have that. I was looking at a new Plasma TV for 1700 dollars and it had a 6 month warranty, but offered a 3 year extended warranty for 500 dollars. The extended warranty thing has become a big money deal and almost applies to everything we buy. It seems that there are more and more schemes on products we buy as time goes on.
