I have a 265 john deere mower with kawasaki engine..it starts and runs fine even with the blades going..but when you try to go at about half speed or more it starts missing..then after 15 min when it gets hot it will start mowing fine..replaced the fuel filter and spark plug..thought there might have been water in gas so i added a bottle of heat..and topped off with new gas..any suggestions..im gonna try buying a new coil next i guess..???

I would also make certain when you remove and clean carb to clean the idle jet and port very well.A quick diagnostic tip is too manually apply choke near carb when it is "missing" if htis causes a change then it is most likey a fuel related problem.I would also look at ignition module as being a possible cause, located on right side of block near dipstick tube, alos real comon on 265 was fouled plugs for some reason.Good luck.

Don't know how that compares age wise with our 425, but it's got a Kawasaki V-twin in it. We had similar problems, couldn't fix it and finally had a mechanic fix it. I guess it was some sort of electrical do dad with the fuel system. I didn't pay the bill or else I may remember a little more about it. I think the part cost almost $100 though.

Now it idles better than it ever had for us. Before we had it fixed it got to the point where it wouldn't run at all except at an idle.

I have one with a dead Kow. engine. The so called balancer tried to exit thru the block. Everything else worked good. Let me know if you need some parts.

Missing? Did you look in the shed? Sorry.

All filters, air and fuel especially. Drain the sediment plug on the carb so no water in gas. Lastly, the plugs and plug wires.

If all else fails, pop the carb off, clean it and reassemble.

Got one just like it.
