Thank you so much to everyone that responded to my ballistic bullet forum yesterday. I went to a different store today and asked the guy that worked there to get me 270 winchester ballistic tip bullets. When he gave me the package it said 270 Winchester 130 grain Ballistic silver tip. When I compared these bullets to the ones I bought yesterday, they were considerably smaller in diamater and longer. I guess you can't return bullets either incase I were to do something to them that would make them blow up for the next person that were to buy them. Oh well, I guess I would rather be out 80 bucks then be out my life. Thanks to everyone.

I got two boxes of shells for $80. That would be forty shells. Twenty to a box. $40 for one box. They were high priced.

Let me see if I get this right: You go to the store to buy 270 Winchester ammo, the store sells you 270 WSM instead. Anybody who doesn't know that the two cartridges are not interchangeable should not be in the business of selling ammo. Now they won't take the ammo back because it isn't safe to resell.

My take on it is if it was their mistake, they should refund you your 80 bucks, even if they can't resell the ammo (which is nonsense, anyway). Now if you told them that 270 WSM was what you wanted, then that's another story.

Yes, $80 for a box of ammo is alot of money. Is that 20 cartridges?

The old 270 win. cartridge isn't anything like the new 270WSM {winchester short magnum}. The WSM line was developed for the model 70 {winchester} bolt action rifles. The idea was to make a powerful cartridge in a fairly light, short action rifle. { A great idea, but it was too little - too late and the model 70 went out of production when Winchester went out of business }

There have been really some great exotic / orphaned rounds in the last generation or so. But since they are rare, you are gonna pay dearly for factory loads...If you can even find 'em.

Sorta.

The name and the logo lives on.
But the plant in New Haven closed about 2006.
When it closed, model 70 rifles and 1300 shotguns were discontinued. {too durable, I guess!} The other models are still being made overseas.
This is from memory, so any needed correction is appreciated.

30-30 cartridges are on sale for 10 to 12 bucks .I paid 12.00 for 8mm mauser 2 years ago.30-06 and 270 are under 20.00 here.Wsm cartridges are about 24.00 in super x.Ill reload the 8mm mauser now that I have some brass.15 cents for a bullet, 2 cents for a primer ,5 cents for powder.My powder was bought before prices took off.If you insist on using the wsm calibers you better reload,

motto of the story is: similar to a familiar proverb in construction, check your bullets twice, buy once.
