Hi,
I'm rebuilding an ih 282 diesel motor in a 706 and I was going to put an oil pressure gauge in instead of the low oil light. Could I put the gauge in where the low oil sensor goes on the left side of the block? Thanks

Hi,
So last night I put the oil gauge in and started the motor and I had 0 oil pressure I turned the motor off so I don't think anything was hurt. Where should I start to figure out why I don't have any oil pressure? Thanks

I have used this multiple times and it always works!
Use a plunger type oil can and a piece of rubber hose to make a mini adapter. Pull the oil pressure sending connection out of the block, and insert the hose end (forcing the rubber into the threads) put engine oil in the can and pump it full. It might take several cans. When full, it will feel different and require more pressure to pump. I agree the use of both a gauge, and a light are best practice. Go for it. JimN

Oil in the sump?

Pick-up properly installed?

Primed the pump?

Filters and oilways had time to fill?

Pressure relief valve not functioning?

I would generally spin engine to achieve oil flow before installing plugs or injectors (or leave valves open to remove compression) if there is any doubt with oil circulation.

You can always makeup a 'T' fitting and use both the lmap and the manual gauge as the other poster mentioned.. best of both worlds.. etc.

Gives you the eye catchin' go/no go.. AND the true pressure..e tc.

Yes, you can install a fitting where the sender was, run a line made of steel tubing up to the dash, and install guage in dash. That engine should have 45-50 psi oil pressure, so you probably want to go bigger than a 45 psi guage.

K B it is always wise to use a gauge that has twice of what ya need this also makes the gauge more acc. Also over the years they have found out that a blinking lite will cautch the eye faster then a needle on a gauge layen on 0 . The gauge is a good idea BUT i would also keep the lite AND MAKE SURE THAT IT WORKS.
