Hello Everyone,

Just wondered if anyone out there has any experience
with the above mentioned configuration. I just took
the plunge and bought a 42" LCD. I hooked it up to my service and found the picture quality to be fine in close-ups etc. but suffered with wide camera
views. There is very little sharpness and it is frustrating since this thing cost a good size buck.
I looked into the settings and could not find any
changes to improve things. Keep in mind, my previous television was an old CRT. The receiver is from Direct TV. Do you think upgrading to a
digital receiver will help. I am not critical enough to want to pay for high definition TV, but
would like things to be as clear as with my old
set. I basically wanted a bigger screen. The
one I bought was the Toshiba 1080 p Regza 42".

Any help would be appreciated.

Tim, Ohio

In general the new TVs have poor pictures. My old Sylvania would put them to shame. The pix tube finally gave out.Havent seen a good sharp pix since.I saw the first 10 inch TVs around 1949.Spent most of my working years in TV repair.I like to check out the tvs on display a Sams Club, most have a rotten pix.The bigger the screen the worse they look.

Talk to Directv. They are changing the outside dishes (usally for free). They work great.

We bought a 52" LG plasma with the Direct Tv HD package a couple years ago. It was pretty good. Last week Direct TV called and wanted to up grade the HD receiver for free. IT is a 100 times better. Better than any satellite receiver that I have seen and equal to FIOS (fiber optic).

If you have DTV, you already have a digital signal.

I'm also on Dish with a 720p HDTV and bought the HD package from Dish. I do like it.

Tim, you have a top of the line TV and your picture will not look better if you only have SD programing.

At this time Direct now has more HD programing then Dish.

Upgrading to a digital HD will help a bunch. However you will still have channels that are anolog that will not be real great.
My Sony allows me to change the anolog wide screen to a slightly smaller Square that veiws M.A.S.H much clearer.

Our digital upgrade wasn't that much and it is worth it to view the HDTV Channels.

Tim try your local channels, we can get 4 hdtv channels over the air and are better quality than sat.
