Has anybody changed the originial hydraulic lift piston on a 1948 TE 20 Ferguson which had three steel rings for sealing with a newer style piston which uses a rubber o ring and a leather sealing washer? I've been told that the newer style piston which has the same dimensions as the originial piston does a better job of sealing. the new piston I have is for a Ford NAA. I ordered the piston, o ring, and sealing washer from Yesterday's Tractors . I've ordered a new cylinder as there was a lot of leakage at the hydraulic cylinder end with the hydraulics raised and my bush hog attached to the 3 point. It is my opinion that a rubber o ring would be better at sealing than the steel rings.

Chris, About 16 years ago I redid my MF65 by honing out the cylinder with a Sonnen hone and a friend made a new piston to fit, on his lathe and we used an O ring and back up rings, the same as hydraulic cylinders. It is still holding up well.

Leon,

Thank you for the information. The new cylinder from Yesterday's tractors hasn't arrived yet. I plan to try the new piston with the o ring and leather back up washer.
