I told a lady the other day that I will match scrap price for a non-running John Deere she was going to junk. I feel it is in good enough shape to fix. I don't believe in tractors going to the graveyard if there is any possibility to save them. They just don't make machinery like this anymore! The scrap yard guys are ruthless about letting good iron back out once they have their hands on it.

Only problem is, I don't know what the going rate would be to offer this lady. Any ideas?

I gave 500 the other day for two f-20's and a w-30 that were going that way. A couple are parts only, but that shouldn't matter when bought by the pound. My seller was a deere collector and he figured less hauling-in expense. There are a lot of tractors good and bad goin to the yard these days, any one saved is a good thing.

This makes me sick, how people just slice up these old beauties. I have been turning this place upside down looking for an H, and my neighbor told me there was a AC WD that went for next to nothing, it ran and had a working 3pt hitch. I would have run through $%^$ and back to save that tractor. its a shame.

I wouldn't feel right taking a restorable tractor off of of a lady at scrap price.

Offer her more than scrap price. Why not,The object is to get something you want, not how much you can chisel.

In my area car/trucks go for $100-150 a ton, but tractor because they can't crush them go for around $50 a ton. That said say if her tractors is around 3000lbs I would offer her $100-300 for it

I assume you have a phone/phone book. Look in yellow pages for your local scrap yard. That way you know what is being paid locally. Remember asking hear gets lots of variance due to peoples location.

In my neck of the woods(east central Missouri) scrap buyers are paying $120-$150 per ton. Hope that helps.
