what do you guys like too pack for lunch.. this is the first year I"ve ever had a need too.. and I"ve been eating in town way too much.. need to start packing a lunch.. somthing cheaper & healthier then MD"s and the like.. thanks for any ideas.. Tim

I have a microwave at work, hot pockets are a wonderfull change from pb&j, fruit cups are great, you don't need a spoon, just drink the juice then dump in you mouth, string cheese is great if your lunch pail stays cool enough

I threw out my lunch pail when I retired last year. All I use now is a plastic bag with a apple, and maybe a banana, if I have a large mowing or discing job. Then most of the time I forget I have them. stan

Ham and Cheese on wheat. (Can always tell when she ain't happy..leaves the plastic on the cheese slice), home made salsa and chips, 1-2 pieces of fruit, 1 dill pickle, occasional jerky.

More than I can eat! Job before this one, the guys said I could live for a week off my lunch box. Got her to cut it down to 1 sandwich, ham& cheese,bologna&cheese, salami&cheese, & once in a while I get a cold meatloaf sandwich. She don't like me to eat the same thing everyday. Chips or once in a while crackers. For break Have a prepackaged danish roll and banana & or prunes or dates. sometimes an apple. Pie or cake when she feels like baking. Candy bar, Little Debbie treats, Ibuprofen, cold pills, tooth picks several assorted papers and sticky notes, pen, some cough drops that are melted to the wrapper. Carry a seperate cooler for drinks, can of Sprite and 2 water bottles in summer and 1 when cooler weather gets here. Get lots of comments about 2 coolers. I tell them, when you put'r out, you got to put'r back. Chris

I started out 25 yrs ago with two sandwiches, a meat one and pbj, chips and pop. Dropped to 1 and 1/2 sandwichs. Then to one, then dropped the chips, then the pop. But, strangely my weight kept going up. Now, it one sanwich and two fruits and cookies, water. Oh, and my little ziploc of motrin, excedrin, maalox and bandaids.

I'm with you on all the required Medications in a Zip Lock Baggy plus I have my Sun Screen,Lip Balm,Benadryl, All just in case. This Morning I packed ,12 low salt Crackers,3 slices 4" square Swiss cheese, 2 Dole Peach Cups,6 ritz Crackers, 5 cans Diet Cola,1 Bottle Arrowhead Water and that's it. 5:30 AM at McD drive thru, Sausage Mufffin with Egg[$1.00] by Noon I,m back to Town and get a Jack in the Box Hamburger, run the rest of my route and home at 2PM with one can of Coke to put back in the Fridge. I do this 2 times a week.I eat on the go[while driving] and do not have a very strenuous routine.

My wife likes to cook, so...

Mexican Calzone - meat, rice, beans, cheese w/ taco-type seasoning, all wrapped in pie crust.
Dill pickle
3 home made cookies
Apple
Metal fork

Like several others, left-overs make a nice change.

Also...
calculator, various lists, & notes, USB memory stick, digital camera & patch cord, keys, wallet,

[When I was batchin', I would buy a cheap roast (cook it) and slice and freeze the whole thing for sandwich meat. I made my own bread, too. Top the meat with some good cheddar cheese and maybe ketchup or mustard, too.]

cheapest thing to do tim is go to the meat counter and have them slice whatever you like the way you like it.
Figure how much you need for a week and get that much so it dont go bad on ya.

Them there things just were not meant to be in one sandwich together. It's just wrong, kinda like putting salt on your watermelon, but Lord knows I eat things that aint meant to be. My families favorite dish is when I stir fry shrimp in homemade wild plum jelly and garlic, or my favorite sardines in mustard sauce wrapped in a peice of wonder bread- Yummy!

I have carried the same lunch for about 10 years now. Two PB&J sandwiches on white bread, a ziplock bag of pretzels, and a breakfast bar. Cost is estimated to be around $1.50 per day. When people ask me if I ever get tired of it, I reply yes.

I still live at home so the left over's are always good. Otherwise it's either Ham & muenster cheese, or turkey, or PB&J. Mom's been canning tons of jams & jellies lately, so all of that is home made. I think chicken noodle soup is one of my favorite lunches.

I'll ussually have a can of mountain dew or something in there too- gotta have a little shot of caffine everyday or else....

I make egg and Tuna salad eat it for a week, then ham salad, chicken salad, then slice or 2 of shaved ham,shaved turkey, either chedder or american cheeze or both for sandwiches. ziplock bag of fat free chips, and an apple pealed and quartered. I drive a truck from Springfield, MO to Tulsa, OK eat Sandwich and chips at Tulsa and apple on the way back to Springfield. This week I have Ham Salad.

I don't really pack a lunch. I carry a thermos of tea(iced tea in the summer, hot tea in the winter). And a pocket full of homemade venison or beef jerky. Has always gotten me through since I started doing in high school.

Good question Tim! It's usually turkey or ham+cheese loaf on wheat bread. Can of generic pop, granola bar, little Austin cheese cracker sandwich packets(cheap!) and sometimes a puddin' cup. Most days I take a quart water jug with me, and anymore I'll be taking a Thermos full of coffee instead. Keep in mind, this is for a late afternoon shift in the combine or tractor, so it may be adjusted. Oh, and one more thing, if you like iced tea, put a tea bag in a bottle of water and throw it in your lunch box. A few hours later you'll have nice, refreshing iced tea.

Smoked ham, cheese,lettuce,miracle whip on wheat sandwiches( 1/per 2 hours expected to be going), Water canteen, snickers(energy), baby carrots, and some snack pack pudding. A few pops or beers depending on what I am doing. As others said, ya cant beat leftovers in tinfoil on the manifold if your running a machine. PB & J can be substituted when ham is high, as long as it is super chunk!

I eat out way too much myself, and as of yet I am trying to stay away from having a little lady to pack my lunch for me. Often times I take leftovers, but I am also a big fan of peantbutter & jelly. Having worked on an orcahrd for years, I always bring at least two apples a day with me. A thermos of soup is nice in the winter too. If you put some hot water in your thermos before putting in your contents, it stays warmer much longer. If I have to get fast food I try to go to Subway. You can at least get a halfway decent sandwich for not too much money.

In my twenty six years as an elementatry school teacher I have always had access to a microwave oven. As a bacholer for my first three years one thing I became pretty accomplished at was making soups of all kinds. So for lunch it's a large bowl of soup and a few slices of whole wheat bread from the local bakery thrift store. Finish it off with about a quart of tap water & back to work! I am now married and we have three teenage children. I am somewhat of a bottom feeder in that I take it on myself to keep the refrigerator clean. My wife teases me that I make my own penicillin with the food I eat....Nothing goes to waste. The Lord continues to bless me with very good health. I rarely get sick. I have often attempted to calculate the cost of my lunches and have concluded they cost less than a dollar each....Works for me.

Potted meat-the most expensive you can find, and crackers. Leftovers are good too. Put em tin foil and on the truck engine for 10 minutes, nice and hot, had many a lunch on "Manifold Meatloaf"

Add a butterscotch or chocolate pudding cup to make a nice dessert. I have access to a microwave where I work, so I am usually eating leftovers. If not, I always eat whole wheat bread. The saying goes "the whiter the bread the quicker you're dead"

When I used to work in a shop my wife always packed my lunch . Variety was a key to excitement at lunch time . But then ya gotta watch those women for humorous lunches . Once I had a nice ham & cheese sandwich , but the cheese ended up being a piece of cardboard as a joke . Then once she filled my thermos with Pepsi , what a mess that lunch ended up being . But the real kicker was when she thought she would be sweet on a really hot day & she put a can of beer in my pail . I could've got fired over that one . Like I said , ya gotta watch those women . Carried lunch for over 30 yrs. You need meat and bread to keep going. Put cheese and lettuce on that sandwich. A sm. can of fruit is good, a bag of nuts can be carried all week till gone. Mix it up. Left overs are great. You can carry a lunch for about 2-3 dollars a day. That is alot healthier and less expensive than fast food!

I did a little study of this as I'm trying to control sugar producing carbs ie; breads etc. I didn't carry a lucnh for 2 weeks just fended for myself from the junk food machines or the local mini mart. Isn't hard to rack up a $15 bill a day doing that! Mama picked up some ham and turkey lunch meat so I'll try that for awhile. Been carrying peanut butter and jelly since Reagan first took office.

First lunch, Salami and cheese on wheat sandwich, handfull of potato chips and 4 Oreo cookies. I have a Carmel Poptart for emergencies. Same thing every day for 20 years.

Now the other stuff: aspirin, Advil, Cepacol lozenges, savings account deposit slips, 2 cotter pins, tooth paste and a tooth brush.

For 25 years its been turkey after Thanksgiving and Christmas. Corned beef after St. Patrick's Day, and the rest of the time Peanut Butter & Jelly. Always on whitebread, talk about being in a rut. Sometimes chips and cookies.
