What are people charging now for custom work? I'd like to do some custom plowing for folks to help pay off the tractor. I don't think this issue has been brought up here since diesel prices went up. By the way the tractor is a CaseIH 7120 150 hp and I'm pulling a 14 ft chisel and 14 ft offset disk. Located in North Central Texas.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Looks like if I really want to come out ahead I better charge $20 per acre or $80 to $100 per hour with some kind of minimum.

Around here it is per hour $30 from sh*t heads with no insurance and small tractors. To $55 for average machines Yours is a bit large so probably the $100 is closer. Some things like hay bales or wood processing might be done per unit ie. $1 a bale.

I get a $100 an hour. To do anything with a tractor these days. (My tractors are the size as yours) Used to work for less than $50, raised my price, and I am booked solid for months. Your tractor will drink 50 to 60 gallons a diesel a day. That is almost 2 Ben Franklins, add some money for breakdowns, replacement, and your time and $100 is cheap. Have a flat tire, then there goes the profit.

Check your state extension. I know Iowa, Nebraska, and Misssouri extension puts out a bulletin each year showing the ranges of custom farming rates.

peaster, $15 to $20 / Acre depending on what operation you are doing. $20 on chiseling or disking. $15 shredding with a 15 ft Batwing shredder. Only if running at a regular speed, If you are having to run in 1st or 2nd gear then you will need to adjust your rate up accordingly. Roundbale moveing in a field, Up to 1/2 mile carry, with a tractor, caring 2 bales/trip....$5/bale.
These rates from my neighbor, a custom farmer, and myself.
Here in South Central Texas,... Georgetown / Lampasas area. Later,
John A..

I don't know what the going rate is... With my gear I'd want somewhere in the 20-25 an acre mark for the offset. Have no idea on the chisel but I spose it would be somewhere similar?
I'm thinking that that combo would want about 150 an hour... so figure your work rate from there. The other consideration here is that I'm not overly motivated to do custom work.... and the price reflects that. If a fella had to work I'm sure he could work for less, but I don't think you'll come ahead working for less. You're just depreciating gear.

Just a guess but I would say between $75 and $100 per hour or look at a field and give n the estimate for the whole thing. Base your estimate on the acreage. Walt
