I have an allison 5 speed out of a 1979 international dump truck that was with a DT 466. I was wondering how hard that would be to put that in my 1993 Dodge 250 12 valve cummins. Are there adapter plates out there that match the 5.9 cummins to the allison? Is there enough room? What do I have to do to the driveshaft? Anything have to be done to the flywheel?

More trouble than it's worth. The AT545 is really not that great of a tranny anyhow. Look-up Dave Goerand in Iowa, you can probably google him and find his site. He specializes in taking the tranny that came in the truck from the factory and making a hell of a tranny out of it. I have heard nothing but good about him.

You can buy the bellhousing adapter for the cummins engine. You will also need a new starter, and flywheel. The allison trans you have is more than likely an AT545. It does not have overdrive,so your rpms will be pretty high on the road and you mileage will suffer, probably 3-5 mpg depending on your rear gears. It also does not have park so you will have to make sure your emergency brake works real well. The crossmember will have to be moved and adapted to the rear mount on the trans, the driveshaft will have to have the front yoke changed and possibly lengthened. It is a stronger trans, but you do have some downsides to adapting to the truck
