i have a 1947 case sc that i have had 2 starters on and most of the time they will not engage the flywheel the starter will just grind up against the gears on the flywheel....HELP

When you check the ring gear, rotate it all the way around...4cyl engines tend to stop in four places, which get most of the wear, and they have a lot more ring gear problems, because of this, than a 6 or 8 cyl. Good luck.

starter is spinning too fast before the bendix gets thrown out onto the flywheel... check your lingage.

also check for terribly worn ring gear.

a couple of things to check 1. look at the ring gear on the flywheel are the teeth chewed up.
2. manually see if you can engage the starter teeth they may be the wrong size. Walt
