In my earlier post about how much I was loving picking corn this year, a few people asked for some photos, sooooo here they are! It is a 1959 JD 730 with a New Idea 2 Row Picker. These two successfully picked and filled a 1000 bushel crib this year. Now it's time to get the JD 55 with a two row head and finish the field. Have a great fall ya'll

i love picking corn. i got a JD 70 diesel and JD 60. I do have a JD # 227 mounted picker that has been on each but it's such a hastle to get it on and off unless you have a tractor to leave it on( which i don't) so i ahve a New Idea 2 and 1 row pickers. love combinging better but nothing beats the sound of the 2 cyl working!

Hal-I do chop the stalks and then bale about 5oo bales for the animals. Really like stalks more than straw, especially because I have buyers for all my straw!

Looks like a good crop of cornstalks too. Any idea on how many bushels of corn per acre? Hal
PS: We shredded corn stalks for beddiny and the cows like to eat them too.

I am curious, how many acres do you farm? Do you pick it all? Looks like some decent corn.

I only play on 40 acres of land- I only fill a 1000 bushel crib with ear corn and usually combine the rest. This year though, the corn is plentiful, so I will be making a few extra trips the elevator. I really do play on the 40 acres- I grow hay, oats, wheat, soybeans, and corn. We have a threshing show here on the farm in the fall and usually get about 1000 people here for the day. What a hobby, right?

Priceless!!!! If the girlfriend has a 4430 and a farm background you best marry her soon and keep her identity away from this group even sooner.
