The other day my fiance and myself were talking about using some of our wedding moey to buy her a new horse next year, as she had to put hers down last week Monday because of cancer.

She said that after we get a horse, we gotta start putting money away towards fixing up the dead Oliver 1755 behind the barn...

Gotta love that! She wants a tractor that she can help me fix up and call hers.

Now I may have to contact the place in IL. that makes new original looking ROPs/ canopies for the Olivers and have one made up for it...

Donavan; Dont put the rops before the horse! lol
Remember, she said after we get the horse. We just celebrated 43 years of (mostly) wedded bliss. 3 Children and 8 G/C. Helps in the hay and drives truck or tractor when needed. Is an accoutant working 5 days to earn enough to keep me on the farm. A happy wife makes a happy life. Bob

Don,

Get the horse. My wife has been smiling since we got our gelding and CJ is right about keeping "mama happy". My wife has a bumper stick that reads: "A woman needs 2 animals in her life: the horse of her dreams and the jacka** to pay for it".

Like the old saying, If mama aint happy, aint nobody happy. If she puts up with your hobby or even supports it, get the horse. You gotta give a little to get a little. Took me three tries to find a keeper, And she even paid for the first tractor added to the collection after we started seeing each other. Wouldnt trade her for a shed full of tractors no matter what color. Just a word from a guy whos taken more beatings than the French army. No offense french guys just a joke.

I got one 37 years ago. A while back a guy nearby had a pair of Super C Farmall's for sale. I told her those might be neat for a his/hers deal to take to shows. She thought that was a great idea. Turned out the guy wanted way more than the tractors were worth.

And she doesn't complain when I get something for my collection.

Good for you Don. Keepers are few and far between. It took me over 17 yrs to find that my 1st wasn't a keeper. Been with my keeper for over 8 yrs. now. Loves old tractors and working on them. Bought her a 1951 Allis B, that she did much of the work on. Now she is hooked. She loves to hunt and fish. Can't hardly get any better than that. Oh yea 1 more thing. Many people find this hard to believe, but in all our time together we have never had an argument. Her love of the old iron makes things a lot easier. Best of luck to you and your fiancee. Ted

You're lookin at it all wrong! If she was really a keeper she would have said "I don't need another horse"... haven't you learned by now that those things are useless unless they get ridden several times a week, you're a cowboy, or they are a draft horse. Although... we do sell a lot of hay to horse owners so go ahead and get a few.

Donovan, Not to wet on your parade but.....It's been my observation that fiances and wives have been known to have different opinions regarding our toys. As in fiances are more tolerant of them than wives. Fiances are more tolerant of most of what we fellas do than they are when they become wives.
See if you can get it on video.;-)

The owner of the stable where she kept her horse has a gelding that she is probably gonna sell to us. He was boarded out there, then the family disapeared, supposedly to Chicago, so she got stuck with it.

I guess it isn't saddle broke yet, but he's a beautiful horse. Very dark brown/almost black, and in the right sunlight he turns more chocolaty reddish colored. Don't know the price yet, but I don't think it'll be too bad...

If that deal doesnt' work out, the guy who delivers my feed won a horse in a fund-raiser raffle, but can't keep it... If you'd be interested, I'll get his phone number.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm pretty sure she wants this one. We won't be buying it until sometime next year, but she's welcome to go out to the stable and bring it in anytime she wants in the mean time.

Otherwise the owner has another pair she said she'd be willing to separate, because they'll still be in the same pasutre.
