The C135 gas seems to"ve been used much more than the D166 diesel, altho my IH listings are far from complete. A Fel-Pro catalog says the TD340 Crawler came with the D166 or D188; I don"t know whether the whole engine would drop right in (assuming the catalog is correct).
The only other D188 listings I found under IH were in H25B Payloader, 504D, some 2500 Constuctall, 2504D and 3514D Loader, but others may have more complete listings. Good luck.

from what i had read the 188 has a different crack or rods ? the pistons were the same but it had a different stroke right? whats the difference between the 166 and 188, crank or rods or both? so i could use a complete 188? or do i take the 166 internals and swap them, or would this cause issues. are the blocks machined the same but just have a different stroke. my plans are to find a known running engine to put in or find a good block and rebuild with new sleeves, pistons rings ect. just dont want to buy somthing i cant end up using so im asking alot of questions. sry. thanks john

Looking through the piston ring catalog, I observe that engine is used in the TD340 crawler and the UD166 power unit. The 340 also used the C135 gas engine which was also used in 330, 404, 2404 and 91 combine. The same piston rings fit the D166 and D188 engines.
