JD has made some very good machiney but swathers and hay conditioners wernt one of them.
There wobble boxes like to break and fall off for starters.
If you run your cutters hard in rough ground and rocks like we do out here (nw nd) the repair bills on the JDs will break ya.
I now the dyed in the wool JD boys will say different but i have seen a lot of late model swathers sitting on lots out back that they couldn't give away.

They were good in their day and first swather ever saw with a steering wheel also. Just didn't have a cab with AC like later ones we had. We use to have one but never used the steering wheel just the levers. Always had to reset the steering clutches and levers sometimes but it was a partnership machine and other partners abused it not making it easy. Engine and the rest of it ran great for years and did a valve job on it once, water pump and radiator job, tune ups, new carb, just other general maintainance but it was a good machine. Only thing bad I remember was the crimper was a real heavy PIA to get off and back on. Think it had a 180 ci JD engine that was also used on many other JD gas tractors and machines. You can put a later JD diesel in it too if engine is bad.
