does any one out there know how to stop the pto on a 1030 from turning all the time? i have disconnect and played with the linkages, all to no avail. am thinking it has to be something internal. i also have hydraulics that wont hold one way, its the same on both circuits, i am thinking it would be a check valve/ ball not sealing in the remotes? also if the tractor is left siting a week or two it has a slight miss when you first start it (worse in cold weather) maybe a leaking injector? (but starts real well, even on a freezing morning) apart from these few problems i think i have a prety good old tractor, it doesnt use oil or blow water, has fair power, no funny noises in the backend but a little worn/noisy in 4th and 8th gear. will lift nearly a ton on a long front end loader. it has come together ok considering it had no steering, clutch, breaks, instrumentation and needed a complete rewire when i got it i think. i paid 5000 australian for it and the loader when i bought it, do you guys think it was a fair price? if theres any one that has an ideas on anything to help it would be good. thanks

thanks guys! sounds as good a place to start as any, havnt had a chance to look at it yet but will see how i go. the pto is the only thing thats really worrying me or limiting the tractor use. have never been inside a case and have no books for it, have found were i can get some here in australia but they want about $350 per manual (parts and operators) i am planning to have a lookin the remotes (when i can do without the tractor for a while) but can also put a seperate bank of remotes for the loader on fairly easy by by going into the line from the filter going back into the remotes (all external piping, out of pump to filter and back to remotes) and putting a dump line back into the filler, this will be better being able to have the loader hooked up as well as an implement at the back. but it would be nice to have the original remotes holding both ways although its not critical. i can still get some bits new out of england/us but they are limited and a bit hit and miss as to whats left for them. (i did get a new tacho cable out of the states $54 here which i thought was ok but theres only 6 left on record) the 930s were more popular in australia, the 1030s had a bad habit of getting hot here and cracking heads (my grandfather had 1 new and it did it he & dad fixed by taking the aircleaner out of the front & putting it out the side, have seen it done on a few 930s as well, but they put another radiator in front of the original as well and it cured the overheating problems. its a bit hard to do this with a fel fitted but) most of the 1030s have been gutted or buried here in wrecking yards. you guys seem to respect the older stuff in the us a bit more than they do here, i have found 1030s advertised in dealerships over there on the net. i havnt seen any in yards here (except mine) in over 15 years. thanks again

Hi Mark I have a 930 and don't know if the 1030 is the same but Steve pretty well described the area to find the PTO clutch brake by removing the plate on the right side. I would strongly suggest getting a manual for this in that it will show you how to release the clutch brake and which way to turn that assembly. Another suggestion would be if you use a brush hog or any implement that keeps turning after shutting off the PTO it would be a good idea to get an overrunning adapter to go on the PTO since it will wear your PTO brake out on any tractor without one. Don't have any ideas about the miss or the hydraulics other than what you have already said about them, sounds like a seal somewhere in there to me. I have heard a lot of tractors miss when first started and line out after a while.

On the right side of the pto housing looking at the rear. Theirs a small cover to adjust the overcenter clutch.Look in their you may have to adjust the clutch and then do you linkage. Make sure you have good 60 lbs of pull for the clutch to engage.Do the adjustment and then the linkage adjustment. This is what i did on a 730,so i'am just putting my 2 cents in.Just to give you something too look for ,hopefully somebody gives a better idea. Trying to help
