1206 international reverse problem

Ive got a 196? 1206 turbo. My problem is that it wont go into Reverse. If i try over and over again it will go in evetualy, and once its in, its not a problem. I dont no weather this is a sycrow problem or bent fork. Any ideas? Thanks.

It is proably wear in the linkage, I went through this with a 706 and have it now where it works. Start at the shifter and work down to the transmission and rebuild all lost motion.

More them likely it is woren pats. Like the rev. shifter shaft has a wore out keyway or the shift fork has one side of the fork broken off . Also along with other ware from the shifter all the way on down . Most of the time all this starts with the clutch linkage becoming out of adjustment and when this happenes the T/A dump valve gets out adjustment then ya start jerking on the shifter to get them in and out of gear . and adds more ware to everything . To fix ya start at the top and work your way down , look for ANY excess slop and fix this is not hard to do . Next remove the deck plate and the clipped corner cover off the left side of the rearend behind the left step . You do not have to drain the rear end to remove this cover as only about one gallon of Hy Tran will come out . look at any slop in the shifter shaft there as there is to BE NONE . If you have slop then with the help of a friend remove the range trans cover brining it up slowly and catch the shift fork and woodroof key . as it will fall out . Then while ya have the top cover off take a good look at it at the hole where the shifter shaft goes thru and you will probably find ware there . As this hole must be tight , a good machine shop and bore that hole and make a bushing and press it in to fit a new shifter shaft , But that hole MUST BE KEPT IN the its center line. Next look at the cam and shifter detent for any excess ware . There are several rollers that are in there and if they are missing replace along with a new spring. If this tractor does not have the new stile Park lock now is the time to up grade tis . I have repaired many shifter on I H tractors . When ya get this all fixed and back together then go to the Farmall board and look in the archives for clutch adjusment and dump valve adjustment as i have layed out a real simple step by step way of doing this.
