Hobby orchardist here with 10 trees in my yard. My dad had a few fruit trees when i was young and learned all about spraying and such. Worked on an old-time orchard as a teen (it was the 1980s but the old fellow still used his antique equipment). Now help out a friend of mine on his orchard where i get to play with my tractor (see pic) which i obtained from the farm i worked at as a teen. Also learned how to graft a few years ago. Now into old literature about fruit growing. Recently found a booklet on how to wash lead-arsenic (used for spraying way back when) from apples - yikes!

i have apple, cherry, peach, plum, pear, service berries (like a blue berry), blackberries and gooseberrys. i use a battery powered 25 gallon spot sprayer i bought from big r's for about a hundred dollars or so. i have it mounted on the back of my golf cart. works real nice for spraying, shoots up about 20-25 feet.

the spot spayer is what i plan to do. with 2 gpm pump electric. Mount it on my L deere and it can stay at the orchard. I have a giant airblast but it is always out on other crops and has to be moved. What can you tell me about those spot/atv spayers any good? just need a nossel to coat the trees, yes the small ones i spay by pump up The spot spayer is what i plan to do. with 2 gpm pump electric. The spot sprayer is ok if your trees arent too big. Best to try one out at a dealer if you can and see if you can a fine enough mist at a height equal to your trees. If you end up with a stream the higher up you have to go, its just going to run off the tree and do no good what so ever. I purchased a refurbished power back pack sprayer from Solo for 1/2 the cost of a new one. Also use an old (about 50 years now) push type tank sprayer w/ a briggs/stratton engine and hypro pump. I can get 300lbs pressure with a fine enough spray up to about 20 feet high.

Welcome to fruit farming. Although I don't currently own any fruit trees, I grew up on a small fruit farm and put myself through college working on a big fruit farm.

How developed are your trees? If they are relatively new (not many branches or many trees) a hand gun sprayer will work. It is pretty easy to build a sprayer from parts from TSC. As they get bigger you will need to go to an air-blast sprayer. Building these is probably best left to the professionals.
