Rebuilding a Farmall C and have replaced bearings, seals and gasket on a rear axle. Have the rear end drained and top cover off. I am scrapping the slude off the bottom of the housing. I have two questions. What can be used as a solvent to clean the housing and am planning to replace fluid with universal trans-htdraulic oil. Is this way to go and will it work in my touch control hyd. system. Appreciate input.

I"ve used kerosene and diesel fuel to help clean out the sludge. Buying the actual solvent works too, and it is less combustible.

Use SAE 90 or 85w-140 in the rearend and transmission. Hydraulic/trans fluid will be too light and the gears will spin forever when you push the clutch in.

Use a hydraulic fluid in the touch control system.

Kerosene in a garden sprayer works for me, b ut put 90wt in the transmission, the hydraulic are seperate from the transmission.
