Well, you didn't mention size so I'll suggest tractors that will do some serious work and have live pto and hydraulics. Oh, you also want power steering. First, I would put the 5000 Ford. Plenty of power and has high resale value. The 574 and 674 IH tractors seem to be getting a little collector attention, but the 584-684-784 are better tractors. For JD models, the 20 series such as the 1520 and 2020 are good. I've had a 2010 JD and wouldn't touch another. I have my doubts about the 3010 and 4010. The MF 135 and 165 are great old tractors and hold their value well. It's hard to find a power steering 135.

Deere 420/430 after serial number 125,001 or 435/440 for a foot clutch machine. For a heavier tractor a Deere 50/520,60/620,70/720. They all an be had with power steering, live hydraulics, live pto, remote hydraulic outlets and a real three point hitch. I would lean towards a gasser if you go the 70/720. 30 series two cylinders tend to be pricer as collectors want the "last ones". As for being practical? A new 5105 or 5000 three series, both with M4WD. New tractor with warranty for the price of complete and proper restoration of an antique.

I'd vote for a JD 420,430,520 or 530

Love those Cockshutts! The real Canadian ones. Great looking, with that cream and red color scheme, "art deco" nose piece and grill, independent PTO, many have 3 point, and you don't see a hundred of them at the shows. And as a bonus, always do well in the pulls. Dare to be different!

Not antique, but classic...

IH 806 diesel with a 56 series shifting arrangement. Or a 1256/1456 if you want more power.

This is gonna be about as hard as trying to get a consensus on what type of 'woman' is best.

In general.. most of us get one particular brand we like to colelct.. and then think in terms of that brand.. even if we do stray fromthe fold and own other colors.

Since this thread will never be able to be tallied anyway.. i throw in my bid for the ford hundred series.. perhaps something in the *6* area.. like a 660 or 860 ( live pto nd hyds ) and optional power steering.

If it's modern features you're looking for on an older tractor, you'd have to go with an Oliver Fleetline series, 66-77-88. With all the sheet metal that they had, three colors in the paint scheme, they are a thing of beauty when they are done right.

Sounds to me like you want a Ford Workmaster series...not an antique...apporaching classic status though...

Well since an antique has to be over 100 years old would say you need to rethink what you want. Personally I love Old case anything but I'm partial so that don't count.
My suggestion is to quit worrying about what you want and just go to shows and places where they sell old tractors and sooner or later you will fall in love with one and that will be what you must have.
If you love Old tractors then don't worry sooner or later you find just what you want.
My wife and I went to look at Case LA one day an we both fell in love with it. its in the barn right now getting restored slowly but surely but I keep it running just to have fun with as i do it.

That is a very personal decision. I can't imagine any of us agreeing on it. Just whatever _you_ think fits that description.

I'm partial to the Ford 100 series, but that doesn't make it right for anyone else.
