Happy Thanksgiving to all you fellow Canadians out there !! Overall, in spite of the droughty conditions here in Ontario, it looks like we'll end up with just slightly lower than normal (long term) soy yields. Hay will be less than 1/2 normal yields though.
Find it hard to complain though, with a belly still full of turkey and pumpkin pie !!
BTW, not to start a war here, but I think October is a much better time for Thanksgiving than November (sorry Americans).Just think it's more fall like than having winter in the air in Nov.

Happy Thanksgiving from SW Ontario. I agree about the soy yields. 30bu/ac.Could be worse I guess and with the prices it's not all bad. I too love a good turkey and pie.

jim: Happy Thanksgiving from Strathroy, I did this last evening and for some reason it didn't post.

I never give Americans a hard time over their late Thanksgiving. I always tell them we have to be thankful before everything gets covered with snow, and they believe that. LOL Even the guys from MN and WI think we, (100 miles south of them) are covered in snow by mid Oct. Little do they know, our first real heavy snows blow from across Lake Huron, Michigan State and Lake Michigan, however all is fair, we just send it on to Buffalo and upstate NY.

So most of the lower 48 are celebrating Thanksgiving 3rd weekend in Nov., very thankful they don't have snow

Happy Thanksgiving all Northern folk.. was in the 90s here today. Shredded grass today in shorts. We had 5 cuttings of hay this year because of excessive rain. Last year couldn't find hay. Sorry Jim..this far south we still have 70s and 80 degrees (F) in October and sometime November. The turkeys bake themselves sometimes.

Dave: It didn't take a lot of energy to cook turkey here in SW Ontario yesterday, temp was creeping awfully close to 90F.

You are probably right about Thanksgiving in Oct.
For all the tradition about the pilgrims etc. surrounding the American holiday it was first formally observed on the third thursday of November in 1863 to give thanks for Union battlefield victories during that year.

Thanks for explaining the reason for the timing of the U.S. Thanksgiving. I always thought it was a very late time of the year to celebrate a harvest (at least here in the Northern climes).
