Finally got everything ready to go about 5:30 and started picking endrows. Got almost a hopper full and stopped by the shed to test it, my tester said 17. Then I stopped on a small hill and found out that the combine doesn't have any brakes at all.Now I have to decide whether to just pick on the flat for a while or stop and tear into brakes and fix them. South end of the farm has some major hills, and I know I'll have to fix them before I pick that part of the field. Always something. Chris

I started picking Friday. Don't know what the moisture is,but it's sliding out of the wagons and laying almost flat in the crib. Not piling up at all.Never seen corn so dry so early. Yield isn't too bad for as dry of a summer as we had.

Does that 750 have a hydrostatic drive?

Reason I ask is I ran 60 acres of beans yesterday and don't think I touched the brakes once. Seems like with the hydro theres not much need for brakes.

Combining corn. Everyone around here says picking or shucking and mean combining. Old 750 MF with 1144 corn head. Left brake never did work, but the right would stop you. I was standing on the pedal and nothing. I'll start by taking brake apart and see what it's like in there . Set in the shed for 2 years so it's probably rusted up inside. I think the left side neds a new brake cylinder too. If it's all like what I've combined so far, it will be the best corn I've ever raised on this place. Chris

Would you be combining the corn? 'Here' picking means on the ear. No big deal, just.... ;)

What combine you got? For the brake issue. fluid, tie rod, or?

Around these parts people shell corn, run beans, and about the only ones left who pick corn are the Amish, I gotta go
