I wrote in a couple of months ago regarding finding a pump drive for my JD400 backhoe with the 3.01 CI pump. Someone answered me and suggested changing it over to fit the longer drives that they have now. I have tried an after market part, its to long, I ordered a part from John Deere with the same part # and its to long by a 1/4" also. Then someone told me that they only made this machine for a short time and then changed it but kept the part #'s. Now my question is what do I need to do to make this part fit. Could I trim off 1/4" (these parts don't have as much splin as the old one does) or can I shim the pump. Any suggestions are appreciated. Ed65

I thought all of the jd400 was the same but might be wrong. WE changed some of them over to a newer style coupling,it is a lot more flexible what it amounts to is a round disk with splines on one side thats bolts to the crank pully and a disk just like that that bolts to the pump shaft and then there is a matching rubber insert that goes between the two disks. If you know what a love joy coupling is it works alot like that.Go to www.johndeere.com click on construction equipment then click on veiw parts catalog and put in 310A find pump drive shaft and you will see the parts. Hope this helps Don
