Just a thought. Lately all those ads wanting to know what something is worth without telling people what it is, such as condition and the mechanics. Its like when Johnny Carson use to hold the cards to his head and tell us the answers befor he read them. I think they all think their tractors are worth their weight in gold and hoping for affirmation. just my 2 cents. (and a rather boring day)

When I brought home me Granddad's JD A and unloaded it I got a call the next day from a collector wanting to know if it was for sale. I said "Sure, I would sell it for more than it is worth." It made him think a minute but he got the point.

There is more to it than just sentimental value. I have the tractor my Grandpa bought new (1956 JD 60). My son has the tractor his Grandpa, my Dad, bought new (1950 JD A). They are more than just an heirloom. I grew up in and on these tractors. Know everything thats ever been done to them and with them. Every overhaul. Every new set of tires. When Dad laid the A on its side. When I broke the front wheels off the 60 with the mounted picker on it. Knowing the complete history adds value as well. I, and I can speak for my son as well, wouldn't sell these tractors for any amount of money.
Oh, by the way, my 60 has a brass tag. It must be "R A R E"

Have a great day.

Loren

That is a good point. I have the Hoosier cabinet my mother learned to make bread on, and the copper clad wood stove she baked it in. I am restoring the 1929 Model A ford she drove to college. I am also restoring the 1935 Chevy grain truck my grandad bought new. Granted, those things were used long before I came along, I am attempting to preserve the family history and hope my children will get an appreciation for their roots as well. Most of my children like the tractors best. So, they all have names, but the names are of grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. One of these days the names will make sense to them. Our 20 ft flatbed trailer is even named after my grandmother because it is so tough!

So... what"s my H Farmall worth? It"s RARE! LOL

If an ad doesn"t have a price posted, I don"t even bother to open it. If they are so ashamed of the price they can"t post it, it must be too high.

Yea, like seeing a sign on a car at a used car lot that says "drives good"; doesn't necessarily mean it's in good condition. What about "needs minor repairs". Why not just do the repairs so you don't need to mention it and get more $$ in the sale?!!

I kinda think the two John Deere two cylinder tractors are worth more than anyone would pay for them just because I put a value in the sentimentalism. They are family heirlooms to me.

Its worth more than you can pay by just looking at you but let someone who has money come along and watch the price get confirmed.

What I meant to say was the two John Deere tractors that I got from my grandfather were of more value to me because they are family heirlooms. Sorry, its been a long day.

Same is true of all the ads posted where it's obvious the seller doesn't have a clue what they have. Couple weeks ago there was a 1969 Ford Jubilee ???? Oh yes, and everything is "R A R E". OK, I vented. Been one of those days.
