Never, ever saw it this dry by the first of October. Unbelievable. Can"t even get the plow in the ground, much less see any point in mowing grass. (what grass?)

yep .... pretty dry up here in northern Md. I was lucky to get about 40 small squares per acre last cutting about 3 weeks ago. Only 2 cuttings this year. Also I plowed, disced and seeded a field with Orchardgrass in mid-September and no rain since. That Benchmark Plus orchardgrass seed 'aint cheap. Ouch..

Something else to think about on this topic...
I'm a volunteer firefighter, and I can tell you we're ALL nervous about the conditions. We've had a few small brush fires in the area - fortunately they were on weekends and the crews got on them quick. The PA DEP and Forestry Service are recruiting, something I don't think they do very often. If we don't get some quality rain soon it won't be a question of "if", just "when".

Down here in Ga. it is so dry .I went fishing the other day and caught a catfish that had ticks on him and to beat all the ticks had chiggers on them. Also seen this morning 2 fire hydrants fighting over a dog

Yes it sure is dry. I'm in SE PA about 20 minutes below Allentown. The water hasn't been flowing over the dam for awhile now. Finished up some plowing this weekend and it was like plowing rock at some spots. It barely went in. It's making all the leaves turn earlier than usual too. Doug N

It's the same way here in Anne Arundel County. I seem to remember a year like this back in the early 80's. My mower's been setting in the shed most of the summer. A friend took off a second cutting of pasture grass last week. Got three 4X5 round bales off 11 acres. No livestock on it.

yep it's dry. I'm in the northwestern part of Balto. county and it's been dry here all summer. And to top it off the guy up stream from us put a dam in the stream and dried our part of it up. He has a pong that is spring fed, I guess his pond is getting low...geesh

Very interesting , I'm 20 or 25 miles east of you guys in whiteford . 1000 ft south of the
pa line and 3 miles west of the river.

I dug in the hill for an addition to the shop
about 6 ft down ,it's almost dusty that deep.

Combines on Delmarva are all one color: black. It's drier than Popcorn Gas in Somerset County with no relief in sight. Third month of a burning ban. I'm 45, and I don't ever remember a fall this dry.

Its as dry as a desert my neighbor was taking beans off this past weekend before I saw the combine it looked like the field was on fire. We need RAIN. My plow goes down easy I just need a resperator to avoid breathing all the dirt. It is like concrete. It seems like the earliest harvest in years. John
