bed time about 12 midnight get up 7 to 8 am. sometimes if there is something interesting on tv we will stay up to watch it. i know we are lazy bones. after all the years of getting up from 2:30 to 6:00 am it's nice to be able to come and go as we like. i often thought i would meet myself at the door.

Mine get's kinda messed up. I work 12 hour sifts at night, 3 nights one week, 4 the next. When I get off work and am coming back in, I go to bed about 9 am and get up at 5 pm. When I get off and don't have to come in, I go to bed about 6 to 8 pm and get up at 7 to 8 am. If I did not work the night before and don't have to go back. I go to bed at 10:30 pm, get up about 7 am. If I am starting back to work the next night, I stay up as late as I can and get up around noon so I can stay up all night the next night.

Told ya it gets complicated.

In the rack about 10 - 10:30pm, up at 4:15am, Off to work by 4:45am, back at home about 5:15pm.

The hour plus drive to work and then back is what makes my day excessively long.

During my 13 years on shift, anytime was sleeping time if possible. As for a virtually unknown but a nation wide aggrivator of ADHD, high blood pressure, diabetes, stress, accidents and mental illness to name just a few. CSD. Chronic sleep deprivation with our 24hr life style, cross country travel, TV, computer, shift work, long commutes etc. It's costing the country billions and years of healthy living per person.

Usually in bed by 11:30. and up at 7:00 Since I have retired I get more sleep, and am more tired at the end of the day, than when I went to bed at 1:30 am, and got up at 7:00 am. when I worked the night shift. Maybe I was younger then? Stan

It does not matter. I work 7 days on and three days off.. I am on call 24/7 in the seven days and sleep time varies from day to day.

Up between 3:30A and 4:30A depending on schedule. To bed as early as possible which means 8:30-9:30P. This old body can't do the work it used to without some down time. Only problem is staying asleep without med's like Tylenol PM. Don't like that, but if I wake up to go to john I'm done for the night!

It depends on the time of year. In the summer I usually get up about 2 hr before sunup and go to bed about 11 PM. In the winter I'm part grizzly bear I get up about 6:30 and go to bed about 9ish

Usually in bed by 9 to 9:30 and sleeping before 10. Alarm goes off at 6 and it's off to work.

Many days I wake up between 3 and 4... don't sleep well. And of course, on the weekends when I could sleep in, I'm up at 2!

Have tried different sleep aids, but they leave me feeling tired all day even though I get a full night's sleep.

Once the baby comes in February, I'm sure there will be a whole new schedule... third party image

Week nights its up at 7 am or so for school, then bed between 11pm and 12am. Weekends, I try to be in bed by 1am, but I still get up about the same time.

Of course all these times can change, up late for homework/project I didn't do, wake up early for field trip, help a friend, etc.

During the week it's bedtime between 10 and 11 and wakey wakey between 7 and 8. It varies with the type of work I'm doing. On weekends that plan falls apart completely and I stay up late causing me to sleep most of the morning. Gentlemen, I have to ask, what could you possibly have to do that you need to get up at 3:30 for?? Aside from dairying, there is nothing going on that time of day.

I usually get up between 2:30 and 3:00am to do my chores so that I can get an eary start on the day's work. :>(

The older ya get, the faster the days go, ya know. :>(

Out the door now to haul more wheat. An old man on the end of a scoop shovel isn't my idea of a good time, but at almost $5 a shovelful, it takes the hurt away. :>)

Allen, did you put sideboards on the old beet box? If so, how many bushels of wheat did she hold?? Boy, one load of wheat would about buy a new box...Thanks, Cmore

Hi Bud,

Going to a farmsale this fall to see if I can grab a bone-fide wheat box for this truck. Got this one fixed up pretty darned good, but maybe I can make it even better.

Trouble is, the elevator is 40 miles away.

Wheat is running 62 lbs @ 15.9 protein and the old truck, as it is rigged now, just plays with these 350 bushel loads. Kinda glad I found that heavy sprung beet truck because she'll handle more if I can find a good, tall steel box. :>)

Like this one Allan;

third party image">Link

I think it holds 35 cubic yards struck, he hauls silage for others( probably just getting done) and a lot of grain with it from his fields, also hay and even sawdust, holds 14 large square bales, I'd have to ask him on the bushel count, the elevator he uses is about the same distance away, he has to run the combine, have someone get the truck to the fields, filled at night hauls in the morning, he's got several hundred acres in corn still, most he does on his own, I believe he's about 70, got rid of the cows though. It's got a nice automatic tarp, he uses 2 types of tarps, chute and has the lift gate, entire back part of the box lifts over head like those old 1 piece garage doors, really is a great box, can do manmy different things throughout the year with it.

Yeah, it sure is a nice size and configured body for farming and the like, I really like the style of the box, gives you some room, was recently painted, he bought the box new, chassis had a concrete mixer on it, heavy rears and double frame, old but new motor/drive train, 6 spd mack trans ( never really liked those, gears are spread too far apart for hills, funny though you can shift backward on them, gears work both ways) This guy is the definition of a farmers farmer, I've always admired that part of it too, not the easiest job and it don't get any easier the older you get, but at least the cows are gone now, just deals with crops and field work mostly, amazing the acreage he still does though.

Kind of went a astray here on the question asked, like most, hit the hay before midnight sometimes 9-10pm and am usually up before the sun rises, so it kind of varies now, but for years it used to be mondays 2:30 a.m. wake up on the road at 3:30 a.m. to get to NYC or other places, tues - fri on the road at 5:30 a.m. to beat the NYC traffic from my other place down there, last gig might have kept me out until 8 or 9pm on many week nights, + the 130-140 miles a day driving( mileage paid) between job sites and the office, kind of good to be out of the rat race now though, they'd have to make one heck of an offer to get me back that is for sure.

Dayshift, bed at 11:30 PM, Wake at 4:40 AM,
Nightshift, bed at 7:00 AM, Wake at 1:00 PM

Shift work, you get used to it. Just don't stay up too late cause your body goes into nightshift mode and you can't go to sleep til morning!!!

Gotta go, Aaron

I've said this on-line someplace, hopefully not repeating myself here:

I was built for a 30 hour day. When I wake up, I do not get tired for the next 20 hours or so.

When I fall asleep, I don't want to get up for about 10 hours.

It is very hard for me to operate in a 24 hour standard period. I'm always a little tired, or fighting to try to fall asleep.... Very uneven wake up & go to bed times. I tend to only sleep 3-4 hours for a couple days, then crash & burn for a good 10-11 hour sleep.

I picked corn all day, was up at 7:00am. Good hard work, ear corn picking, one man show, lot of wagon hitching & so forth, picked until 8:00pm. Here it is at 1:20 in the morning, & frankly I am still wide awake.
