Has anybody heard anything about Sackett Farm Eq in McBride closing? I heard it yesterday from one source. If it's true,I'm gonna have to quit farming yet! That's the only dealer of any kind within 40 miles of me. The local TSC is completely worthless,I might as well go to the local hardware store as those pains in the a$$. CRAP,40 miles one way to get a bearing and lock collar or a roll of 60 roller chain is getting to be a little too much to ask.

Gads, RR - that"s real bad news. They are (were) a real viable dealer. Could get "bout anything from them in the line of parts. Their parts department folks were top notch - I"d nominate Jan for one of the best I have ever had working on my parts needs. She was truly knowledgeable. I hope your information is WRONG!

I'm hoping the guy was mistaken and they meant the Lawn and Garden Center on 46. I asked him again last nite at the Farm Bureau meeting and he said he heard it from the father in law of a guy from Entrican who does a lot of business with them. Maybe you and I should hire Jan and start our own store Ray. Tsc just keeps going deeper and deeper down the toilet. I had to take a fat heifer to Sages this morning and stopped to see if they had a "might fit" muffler for my 1020 Deere. They had one for an 8n Ford,an M Farmall and one I couldn't identify. That was it. I went to Detroit Ball Bearing in Grand Rapids a time or two and stocked up on different size bearings and collars. I bought all that Crooks had when they closed, but there is always some odd size that you didn't know existed when you are real busy and just don't need to spend half a day driving. If you hear any different about Sacketts though, let me know. I'd sure love to be wrong.

You can do one of two things.Buy all new equpment so you have no break downs.Or,Think ahead.Try and buy the common things so you have the parts on hand.Take a good hard look at the equipment you have now.Do some preventive maint.Buy a few parts at a time. You farm because you love it or you would not do it.Don't let a 80 mile trip make you stop farming. You can find a way.

Thats why my dad and I started in the mid 90's of getting everything just alike. Now we ach run 3 identical Ford tractors, identical mowers, rakes, and round balers. Only unique stuff is the dozer, skid steer, square baler, bush hog, and disc that we dont use regularly or share.

With just having the 3 tractors alike at my place I can afford to inventory a full set of belts, starter, battery, alternator, clutch, etc. What I dont have on hand can usually be robbed off one of the others until UPS can bring me what I need.
