Lanse - as long as we have a sentimental thread going let me put in my $.02 worth. For over 20 years I looked at kids through the windows of a patrol car in a mid-sized urban area. It just really tickles me to see you working, learning, and caring about things like you do. As others pointed out you ask questions and listen to the answers. You are doing something productive and not frozen in front of an x-box or PlayStation. Good going young man, and good luck to you in whatever you do. And FWIW I also understood your comment on the truck bed thread - and I learned something there too.

I have not been able to post for several months but have been able to read the posts. Lanse is to ne commended for taking the ridicule he has been given. He at no time talked back to those who had cruel things to say about his lack of experience. he reminds me of my early years with my first tractor. a "B" farmall.

Lanse,
I (and I speak for those who care) believe you are coping with three elements of growth at the same time, and doing well.
You are asking questions, and taking the answers seriously.
You are discovering things that we all discovered (or were told so many times we thought we had discovered it) and you learn from those experiences. You are also willing to share with us, without editing, your side of things. In the face of some ridicule, you persist. Very encouraging.
You are involved in machinery. That pursuit will serve you until you cannot talk any more at 120 years old. It is the single most important component of development that you can dive into. Reading, and math will provide leverage and knowledge to apply as needed to your future endeavors, but the mastery of machinery will fit it all together.
Please believe I understood your smile at the post about cutting trucks in half. Jim
