Thanks to all who gave me suggestions on my '03 Dodge idling problem. Tonight, I got the filter changed, primed and started the truck, seemed to have taken care of the rough idling problem. I'm going to drive it to work tomorrow and see how it does. The manual states it should be changed every 15,000mi, but I did the quick math and only got 8,000mi on the filter. I buy 98% of my diesel at the local Flying-J truckstop and use Power Service fuel additive in everytank. Could this new ULSD or the Power Service be having an effect of my filter, maybe loosening up some gunk in the tank or lines? The truck has 104,000mi now and should I continue to change the filter at 8,000mi?

filter changing depends on the place you buy the fuel . I change about once a year and it hasn't been dirty yet but that's just dumb luck . bio-diesel will clean the fuel system out good if used and clog the filters for as long as it takes to get it sparkling clean.

have you run any biodiesel blends? that stuff will definitely wash deposits out and clog filters.

we've got 3 class 8s on the road everyday - 2 freightliners, 1 international

right about the time of the ULSD switch, we had 1 truck that the rubber feed lines from the tank to the filter/fuel pump/engine deteriorated internally and collapsed, starving the engine of fuel. we cleaned rubber particles out of the fuel system for 2 weeks. the repair bill combined with lost revenue nearly killed us. my truck lost all the injector Orings and 1 injector the same week as the fuel line problem on the other truck. the Orings were definitely ULSD related and i think the rubber lines came apart because of it as well.

feel free to email me if you need more info.....

Don't know too much about the Dodge diesel, but my neighbor has one and has been using power service in it since new, he's got 450,000 miles on it and has never had a problem, but I could not tel you how often he changes the filters.
