Brother picked one field of corn, 140 average, better than normal. Started some beans yesterday across the road from the corn. Not as good as expected. A lot of bb sized beans, a lot of variation from one end to the other. Leaving the ends and patches because of green beans but the one he cut teste 10%. S central Il south of the black dirt.

I live in central iowa and seen one field of corn gone allready and couple others were being opened up last week. Haven't seen any beans that look close to being ready yet.

Southern Indiana - extreme drought. Very unusual year. Corn harvest at 75% complete. Corn is dry out of field at 14%. Corn planted in late March early April. Yield average @ 140 bushel per acre. Test weight is normal - no dockage.

Normal for this time of year folks would just be starting harvesting and the corn would be 18 to 20% moisture at 180-200 bushel per acre.

Full season beans are just getting ready and will be a tad below average yield due to drought. Beans after wheat will yield way below average due to drought.

There will be a record number of acres put into winter wheat this year in our county due to the early corn harvest, most wheat is planted after corn rotation, record number of corn acres planted this year, and this years wheat crop acres were way down due to late spring frost that had many destroying the wheat crop and planting in corn. Also the price is really high.

Shucked an 80 today and the monitor in the combine was running between 240 and 250. I haven't actually looked at the scale tickets, but it tested 16.

From Northwest North Carolina.

My corn silage yielded about 15 tons/acre - two thirds of normal. Planted 1st week of June, got lucky with a few showers right after layby nitrogen in mid-July , little after that. Had to chop it 3 weeks or so early before it died from drought and heat. Very little grain in it, I doubt if it would have made 10-15 bu/acre. First cut hay ,early May, made about two thirds of usual . None to cut since. Everyone here looking for hay, much of what was made in the spring has already been fed. There was rain yesterday from Humberto, over 4 inches - more than fell on my corn crop since it was planted.

We were in the same boat rain wise. Pastures and hay have been pretty scarse. Some folks west of here chopped corn in early August. It was burned right up. Mine is on some low ground that dosn't do worth a darned in wet years, but it's a God send in years like this. I planted thick,so the stalks are quite fine, ears are big so grain to stalk ratio is fantastic. Just waiting to see how it came through the low temps last nite. Had some frost, but it doesn't appear to be a killer yet.

Southeast SD here. We were terribly dry but got late season rains salvaging the beans. Had high hopes of 40 bushels or better then got frosted the last 2 nights . Now they are going to be trimmed on yield dramatically. Just can't win. Crop ins agent said he tested corn in the 40 BPA range .

Haven't started yet myself but a neighbor reports about the same.

I'm gonna try beans the end of this next week.
