Will an 860 Ford lift a round Bale?

Folks,

I have a well-used and good-running Ford 860 and a need to occasionally move, not stack or load, some 13-1400 # round bales. Will my tractor move these wit a 3-pt. spear?

I have never tried it and am just wondering. I currently move bales with a Dew-Eze hydraulic bale bed on a pickup, which is nice, but occasionally the tractor would be handier.

Your thoughts are welcomed.

Regards,

Phil Crome

With out weight up front nope not likely. That is one of the problems with the fords the front ends are to light. Now if you add a few hundred LBS up front it will play with a bale. My self I use a 841 with front end loader to move my bales and I have to have fluid in the tires and a back blade on plus 6 suit case weight s to move one of my 2000LBS bales using the loader

My 960 struggles to lift 5x6 bales, but it does. The front gets very very light, & I have a Schwartz wide front for a bit of extra weight....

Yes, it'll probably lift the bale... or the front end. I'd start with a few hundred pounds of weight on there. Should be OK with that. I hauled a lot of bales on an 860 when I was younger. I also spent a lot of time steering on the brakes and driving with the front end in the air... Those bales were 1200#, give or take a bit.

It may lift it but you may have a problem keeping the front end on the ground. I have an 861 and I have run into the problem of the front end coming up instead of the bale lifting in some occasions.
