O.T. Has anyone ever had a F-250 with C-6? auto trans. refuse to shift out of park after it has sat for a year or 2? Also acts like steering won't unlock either when I turn ing. key. Could this problem be totally in the steerling colum? Thankyou for your help. Armand

I believe RustyFarmall is on the right track. It"s pretty common.

I faintly, ever so faintly recall getting into a friend's 86 250 pickup on a small hill, and it would not come out of park.

I don't know where yours is now but im thinking that your linkage underneath the truck is rusted tight.

Or maybe the shifter and the key lock are both results of a problem in the steering column.

Check for rust first on the linkage underneath.

Steering column issue - the key will lock the steering wheel and lock the shift lever in park.

see ford-trucks.com for help.

Give the steering wheel a couple of good hard jerks in opposite directions while attempting to turn the ignition key. I've had the same thing happen after being parked for just a few minutes.

Our 02 Sporttrac wouldn't come onlocked one time. I had to horse on the steering wheel way more than you would ever think you should. Never happened again. Figured the PS was pushing back hard for some unknown reason.
