How's the deere dealers doing in your area?Seems most of the ones here in eastern Canada are going broke. Many of the ones in New Brunswick have closed up,heard that one of the ones here in Prince Edward Island are going to close after the new year.Is this happeneing in many areas or just here? The New Holland dealers aren't complaining about sales, and the Challanger dealers say things have picked up abit this summer too.pd

For as long as I can rememeber the JD dealer's been a bigger one that owns quite a few state wide. Reisterer & Schnell is the name, they've got 3 in within 30 miles of me, 1 is mainly lawn & garden, one is out where my dad is from & he worked there when it was Valley Implement (back when he was my age or younger), and the other is also a NH dealer.

Don't know exactly how that works, but they've got brand new shiney Green & yellow tractors and implements lined up right next to shiney new red & yellow implements and shiney blue & white tractors. Must be doing ok, and I just wonder how mother Deere feels about it- Probably the only reason they can get away with it is because they're the biggest and only JD dealer group in this part of the state.

Agco guys are doing fine. Our Massey dealer has gone semi-corporate a while back now (own one other dealership and sell nation wide, as well as internationally), but they've got really good business sense and still cater to both the big guys as the little guys. The other one I go to for Oliver is now Massey too, and they are still a great, family owned dealership.

Here in Michigan, there are only five different names on all the Deere dealers in the state. Most are run by managers and are a royal pain in the a$$ to deal with,so if they go broke,it's by their own doing. They drove me out the door about 5 years ago with their attitude.I went to Agco,at least they act like they want my business.

Over here they seem to be doing OK. I was talking to a couple of dealers at a field day a few weeks ago. JD dealer said things are a bit slow due to the drought, but they expect things improve. They are not laying anybody off, but if somebody does leave, they think twice about replacing them. NH said something similar also they are now selling KTC tools. In my town JD, CaseIH, and NH are owned by companies with 3 or four dealerships. Agco is still localy owned. They all seem to be OK to deal with.

We have about the same number of sales lots/sercive centers. They seem to all have the same name out front. Local JD dealer got a new sign out front a few years ago. Sales and service stayed bout the same. Parts department sucks out loud. I have a dealer 20 miles away and one 45 miles away. The one 45 miles out is still local owned and they are much better about having/getting/price on parts. Case IH dealer got a new sign out front year or two ago, have not herd alot about it change'n much. NH dealer is still local and every thing is the same as it always has been, like him or not.

The one in Owensboro, I don"t know if I would call it a family dealer or not, but IT AIN"T HUDSON. The IH dealer was Bickitt"s in Morganfield, now Somthihg Agripower.

I think JD is following the same strategy as Caterpillar. Cat has only 1 or 2 dealers per state. And they are ruthless in enforcing territory. You cannot go from on dealer to another and get a better price. On the plus side, it allows them to recruit and retain a high caliber of service personnel. Of course this is only my opinion, and this is the internet! :)

Theres two big ones in this area, and I and a alot other people cant wait for one to crash and burn. They gouge their prices, charged 2 grand over normal price for a lawnmower my mom got, and somehow I dont think a little peice of metal replacement is worth $450 total. Their service is horrible, real good sales department though. Many old farmers around here remember when it was a good, realiable dealership. Be fair, an agco dealership crashed and burned a few years ago for that same reason. They sure are thinnin out here.

most of the jd dealers around here are consolidating, when there used to be 15 different owners, now all 15 dealerships are owned by 3 or 4 different dealers

it's the same way here in Illinois. I still drive an extra 50 miles to get to one of the last family owned stores
