Strange Behaving Dodge Dakota 3.9L has Me Stumped

I have a 96 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9L v-6 5 speed. When I'm accelerating through third gear, ON OCCASION the truck will act like someone flipped on the "more power" switch at around 2500 rpm. Even if I keep the throttle at the same position, as the RPM's wind up it will suddenly get a big boost of power. There's no EGR on this truck and I've replaced both O2 sensors and the cat. Most of the time, this engine is a real dog, but some days it goes like heck which perplexes me a lot. I would say it does the more power thing most often when I'm leaving the driveway when the engine is warm. Has anyone seen this before?

I drove several old Model T Fords to work, and the rainy nights made those old suckers go like the wind! (Yeah, I'm that old!) And, i bought them after WW II, when they could be bought for $10-15!

I had a similar issue in my 99 (I have a 318 though) that turned out to be a bad TPS

Hold old are you plug wires? At dark raise the hood with the truck running and see if it is jumping spark. I had a 87 150 ford with a 302 that was a dog unless it was raining. It would run like a scalded ape when it was wet, but the wires were grounding themselves out to the head.

This is the first time I've heard of wet wires performing better than dry.
