Now i just need some money. seems like it is easier to find tractors than money. local guy is thinking of selling jd2840 with 148 loader and cab w/ac. sure would be nice to be cool in the summer and warmer in the winter.

problem is he is going to look at new tractors next week and that is cutting it close for me to find a way to get the money that soon. right now i'm flat broke and would be scrapeing it to the bone to buy this tractor. Not that it is such a good buy but it is close and he does maintain his equipment.

As usual i'm a day late and dollar short when something like this comes up. I just need more equipment than i have money to help make my chores around here less time consuming.

Like brushhogging with a 5ft hog on 240 acres.takes a long time. sure would be nice to have one of them batwing hogs. might actually feel like your doing something at the end of the day.

anybody need some farmall H's. gota couple for parts and one that runs but needs some tlc.How about some hay. i got some of that i'd sell too. As you can see i sure would like to get that tractor. gonna have to go see what old cows i could send to town. problem is i don't have enough .

Oh well might as well quit worring about it.

Trust me just because the guy greases it and changes the oil regularly doesn't mean its in good shape. We bought an Ih 46 baler the woman bragged about how good of care he took of greased it regularly and all. We spent a lot fixing all those hidden problems covered up by all that grease. He was no mechanic that's for sure.

FORGET THE 2840.

Ever hear that old adage..."plenty of fish in the sea"... well, that applies to tractors too.

Get your money and buy something down the road.

Don't do something you WILL regret.

Sounds like maybe you should be upgrading your brush hog first if you have 240 acres to do. I got to ask why you have so much land that you don't use?.

It is not farm land, some is pasture , some is hay meadow, some is just rough. It was so wet this spring i couldn't spray for weeds. Although i have cut and baled the hay i still need to hit the pastures to knock weeds down. In case of a wild fire at least it will not burn so fast and hot.

Plus some of it didn't see the brush hog last year.

I know the man that has the tractor and if it brakes, he doesn't cobble it up to fix it.

This man also changes his belts every year on his round baler. When he uses something it is ready to work.No short cuts on maintenance.

There are better tractors for the money out there. My brother had a 2840, It was a handy tractor, but the upkeep was too expensive. The brakes were the main problem. They wore quickly and caused other problems when the brake material went through the hydraulic system.

Sell the 240 acres then you will have LOTS of money and won't need a tractor.

Keep saving up your money, and dont feel bad if you dont get this one. The 2840 was not Deeres best effort. I have one, good engine but trouble prone otherwise. I put a fair amount of money and lots of time into mine to make it right. (Much of the trouble was others who worked on it didnt really know what they were doing.) Keep looking.

Whatever you do, stop looking after you buy one. In my experience the better deal comes along after you have made a commitment...
