A previous post mentioned Ferrell was selling tanks cheap. Curious to know if anyone bought one or knows what they charge. I switched suppliers last week and I have a Ferrell tank sitting in my driveway. I'd like to own a tank so I'm not locked into any particular supplier. This is a 500 gallon tank.

ferell has been selling off tanks for the last 4-5 years. they are getting hammered on price and losing business. the tanks they are selling are the old ones with the one piece valve. there are no parts to fix them, and if you can fine one, they are $500 new. used tank are $125-200 with these style valves. if you are going to buy one and change it over to new style valves, $155 for the new bungs welded in, plus $145 for new brass valves. a new 500 picked up in centeral indiana is almost $1300. if you want a semi load, knock off about $350 a piece. new thousands are $ 2400.

be careful buying propane tanks ! an A.S.M.E. tank when put into service does not need to be "requalified".//// a D.O.T. cylinder however must be requalified every 12 years by a certified person,, the D.O.T. tank will not be refilled by most dealers when and if they notice the date on the tank.

Where do you buy a new tank? $534 seems like a good price for a new tank, is it metal or plastic?

Steel. most independent propane dealers sell tanks, of coarse they do not come out and say that so that you can lease a tank and be locked in instead.
