Just curious as to if anyone knows if there is a hay cover made specifically for a long single row of round bales butted together. I have several of the silver hay tarps that I use to stack hay under, but at one farm I don't have a loader tractor so that's not an option. I was looking for something made of the same material or similar that would cover a 100 to 150 foot row of single bales. I ahve been using balck plastic, but it's not that durable. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Fud.

If you have anybody around you that has any old silage bags they work good for covering hay we're still using some from 4-5 years ago. Or there is a plastic cover for that. I'll talk to dad about where he got it and just what it is.Then get back here tomorrow.

Just an idea. Have you looked into the plastic sleeves that slip over each bale? Pick the bale up and slide it over like a hefty bag. My soon to be FIL uses them. He says if he is carefull he can use one 3 times.

Good luck. I hear ya about be'n short this year. Buddy of mine had a new slant on it. I asked him if he was going to be ok on hay, he said he would have plenty of hay, just was going to be short on cows come May.

Lots of truth to that. I cant see putting $250 in hay into a cow to have a $500 calf. I'm surprised that a lot of people arent selling their cows and their hay.

Don't know why so many are so upset. I have plenty of hay (I think) I am just going to be short on cows. Culled pretty deep early this summer while they were still fat. Baled about 2 miles of water ways on a guy up the road. Baled 10 acres of ground 8 miles up the road that a year ago I would have told you I would not have drug a baler across for the hill itself let alone the hay on it. Have about 50 acres of corn stalks to put a hot wire round this fall. 20 more acres of stalks to bale. And still might need to cull a few more mommas. But I think I will have plenty of hay. Oh and I forgot about the 10 acres of early beans I am going plant in Marshall Ryegrass and 4 acres of tobacco ground that is going in wheat as soon as it gets cut.

Good Luck

Dave

Might be as cheap or cheaper since you have the covers to buy or make a hi jacker to go on your 3 pt and stack them. If I can find mine you could probably talk me out of it pretty cheap.

hay stored in a single row on reasonably high ground will keep pretty well on its own for a year.I know that it won't keep it's just been baled yesterday apperance, but pretty well just the same.Net wraped will keep even better. But to answer your question,I don't know of one.Can you get a shorter tarp and still stack them up?

as long as you use it in a reasonable amount of time yopu shouldnt have to cover it. only the outside couple of inches will get weathered. you could try to get a couple of semi lumber tarps u can get them made to order might be expensive but they sould hold up very well

I normally don't cover all of my hay, but this year with it so dry in KY and yield so low I am saving all I can. I found a good website, (farmtek.com) that has several different types of tarps. It's a pretty good site. Have a good weekend everyone.
