I posted this on todays tractors but it seemed kind of barren over there.

we use a kubota l2900 at my work. last week we noticed that the loader has no downward pressure at all and seems like it strains to go down, unless you float it and let it fall. Yesterday when we used it we noticed that if you leave the 3 pt a little below fully raised it totally eliminates the loader problem and all runs fine. What is causing this? Is it something in the valve, or is it a pump problem?

I have an L3300. There is a threaded rod under the seat. Pull the cotter key and give it a couple turns (in if I remember) and you'll be good as new.

The power beyond curcuit from the loader valve returns to supply oil for the 3 point. (usually further back on the transmission case)

The supply and return for loader are next to each other somes times the power beyond is next to them on the tractor. Or towards the back of the tractor.

1st ..uncouple and recouple any hydraulic quick disconnects that hook to the loader. (some times they get bumped and slow the flow if they are partially unlocked)

2nd..check to make sure the 3 point lever is not still pumping in full up position. It should kick to off and bypass when it hits the top of it's lift.
3rd. Make sure the power beyond hose from loader valve to tractor and the valve return hose to tractor for the loader are not crossed.

Some Japanese tractors, like my Mitsubishi have an adjustment on the 3pt linkage that forces the lift to 'neutral' when all the way up. If it is not set correctly, the hydraulics continue to try to lift the 3pt when it is at the top. Two bad things about that, one: the lift piston can be forced out of it's bore, jamming the lift. or, two the relief valve will open dumping oil back into the trans, then you have no capacity left for other circuits.

I had a similar problem on a L2650. It had a 3pt backhoe on the back and had placed too much preload on the 3pt to stabilize it. I relieved the 3pt slightly and it work fine.

This sounds totally normal to me. Many tractors have this 'constant pumping' position on the lift lever assembly for certain applications and an adjustable stop that should be set to keep the lever from being able to go back that far, for all other applications. When I bought my L2350 (used), it behaved similarly and the adjustable stop didn't seem to have enough adjustment to block the lever far enough forward, so I just put a small bolt/washer/nut assembly in the position that made it work right and it has functioned flawlessly ever since.
