Don't try to figger this out iffin ya been vistin' Jackie D., Georgie D., or somma them boys from Milwakkee. If ya been vitsin' the Crown it might be ok.

Back in the days of the involuntary service to the US gummint, fella got a jeep stuck. Go get a deuce and a haf to winch it out. Winch cable weren't long
'nuff to reach the jeep, so we moved it a bit closer. Cable was long 'nuff, but the 2&a1/2 got stuck. Here comes 'nother 2&a1/2. It too gets stuck trying to winch the 1st 2&a1/2 out. Making a long story short, it took a D14 Cat to pull out the Cat D9 that got stuck trying to pull out the 2&a1/2 that got stuck trying to pull out the 2&a1/2 that got sutck trying to pull the jeep out. The next day, after a bunch of cussin', discussin', and more cussin, the guy that got the jeep stuck finally showed up, got in the jeep and drove it out. Guess he knew what he was doing, 'cause the nite before, when we left, he went to the bar. Tis a true story. I know, I was the one that got the first 2&a1/2 stuck.

Back about 69 I saw a D9 cat stuck in quicksand on Grandpas old farm. All you could see of it was the top of the seat and the stack. We went over to see the mess and there was 2 BIG semi wreckers trying to pull it out with block and tackle set ups hooked to big oak trees nearby. they didn't do it! Both wreckers pulled the front wheels off the ground tugging at it. They finaly had to pump out the water and dig it out with a backhoe. took over a week to get it out! Grandpa just chuckled and he told us he always had problems there and would not go over that ground in the same spot more than once a day.

Heard a story about war games going on and this a Jeep got stuck. The LT told some GI's sitting under a tree to help push them out. One of them replied sorry sir we are dead. The LT getting out of Jeep said to driver help me drag those bodies over here and throw under wheels. They gut it pushed out pretty quick.

New a guy that was in Vietnam in a construction batallion and he told this story as true. Said they got a dozer stuck in a rice paddy, I think he said it was a D6. Anyway they didn"t have another vehicle large enough to pull it out anywhere close. So, one of the demolition guys had a bright idea and swore he could blow enough of the mud away from it to get it unstuck. Wether getting it unstuck was his actual intent or not nobody knew....What they know is he planted enough charges around the machine that when he set them off there wasn"t anything left but a BIG hole and pats falling everywhere. True story or not I don"t know but I"d have loved to have seen it happen.

I did most of my electrical apprenticeship with an Old timer (past-on now) God bless him.
Everyone called him shorty (bout 4'-10") in the army he was in Normandy and was a chauffeur for some higher up commander. Vehicle was a Jeep, and he told of how him and his buddys would go down to the pond for a swim. They'd take two jeeps and they would drive one into the pond to the top of it's hood so they would have something to jump off of. When the were done they would use the other jeep to drag the one in the water out. Drain the water out of the crankase and cylinders drag it til it started and back to camp they went. I guess the one that they drove into the pond was pretty worn out and the snorkel was not intact.

I was nearly court martialed for disobeying a direct order from a bird colonel at Ft Knox, Ky. I was leading a platoon of 3 M-551 Sheridan tanks to the rear for Q-service and stopped at the Salt River to wait on the ferry. The Colonel and his driver came along and he wanted to see if a Sheridan really would float. They will, but only after the float kit is installed. We didn't have any. He ordrered me to float all 3 tanks across the river. I told him to take flying leap. As luck had it my Colonel showed up and took care of things. I wanted to shoot that Colonel, but didn't have any ammo.

Reminds me of a tale I heard once:

An Army Captain comes upon a Colonel standing by the side of the road. The Colonel's jeep is sitting nearby, stuck in the mud up to the axles.

Captain hops out of his jeep and says "Hey Colonel, is your Jeep stuck?"

Colonel hops in the Captains jeep and says "Nope, yours is" as he drives away.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I bet the Jeep owner looked you all over like you all were crazy or something.

Jeep owner was the U. S. Guvmint. As usual, the whole thing transpired with the owner having nary a clue.
