I've posted this on other truck and trailer forums without any luck so I thought I'd ask here. I have a 07 2500HD with the built-in electric brake controller. When I connect the CM Drover GN horse trailer the truck does not recognize the trailer is there unless it is running when I plug the the trailer in. All the lights work on the trailer but not the brakes until you unplug the trailer and plug it back up. The trailer has a 6way and I have a 6w/7w adapter to fit the truck. If you cut the truck off and restart it , the truck goes back to not recognizing the trailer is connected. Then I have to unplug the trailer and plug it back up to get the trailer brakes to work.
Anybody else have this problem?

Its just strange everything works once you start the truck and unplug and plug it back up.
I have not had a chance to try a different trailer with this truck

Don"t you just love these new vehicles with all of their built in electronic glitches? 30 years ago you would have just plugged the trailer connector into the truck and gone happily on your way.

Do a Search in this forum. It has been discussed before and as others have mentioned there are two wires that need to be reversed. My memory has it that it is a simple fix (providing your problem is the same as theirs)

Good luck and thanks for using trailer brakes.

The problem isn't in your truck,it is in your big 7 to small 6 adapter, there were 2 made Ford - Dodge and then GM.Your truck should be standard now same as ford-dodge,GM's 5-6 years ago weren't and so two diff.adapter plugs were made and you may have an old GM adapter. It would be simpler and better to just put the correct plug on your trailer(7 way).

On my GMC youkon 1500.. the 7 pin wire plug uses a 7-too-6 plug for my horse trailer. i had to reverse 1 pin to make it work? Perhaps your controller 'sees' this and is auto correcting for it..??

Good call. There is something to that, but I can`t remember what. I know if you hook a ford up to a trailer wired for a chev, you have to either get the right adapter or switch a couple wires around, I had no clue what was going on on one gooseneck I was hooked to til a friend pointed that out. Wish my memory was better, or I had written it down. On a truck that new, you could be right on the money as far a the computer not recognizing whats going on. I`d take the truck and trailer by the dealer and explain to them what`s going on. They may even have a calibration reflash, or the right wiring schematic to correct the problem.
Good Luck BW

Yep.. It's absolutely ridiculess to have (2) 7-pin "standards".. if it's a freakin' standard.. do away with one of them!!.. and then people with 7 pin plugs won't have to dink with swapping wires around insid ethe connector using microsurgery tools and a magnifying glass...
