I live in western canada and am considering the purchase of a David Brown 1210,MFWD,cab,loader,mower for $7000.It looks in good condition. Everything seems to work OK except for the 3 pt hitch. Arms will not lower. We tried the lock but didn"t help. I would be using this tractor for a little loader work, mowing, haying. Are there some major reoccurring problems with this unit? Is it difficult to get parts? Are they money pits?

Thanks for anyones help
Malcolm

The price doesn't sound too bad to me... and the tractors were OK, but I'd take a Ford first. That said, you won't find too many comparable vintage Fords for that money..... so use your judgement on this one.

Here in Ohio, that would be a bit too much to pay for it, but I think they were much more popular in Canada, so the price might be right on. The hydraulics can be tempermental, but overall it's a great tractor with a huge amount of power for it's size and is great on fuel. Your 3pt problem does not sound too serious, could be a stuck/dirty valve.

I have a 1200 that I have used for 10 years cutting and rolling hay. It also has a big loader on it. It is far from a $ pit. Can't recall having to replace any parts, just the usual maintainence. As long as you change the oil in the hydraulics and keep it clean, the 3- point will give no trouble. It is a tough old tractor.

About 20 years ago I farmed in a partnership with an older gentleman who had a David Brown 1200. It was a money pit, parts were expensive and hard to get then. I had a Ford 5000 (which I still have) and he often commented that he wished he bought a 5000 and not the David Brown. I guess my experience was different from the others here.

David Brown is a very good tractor. Post on the Case Board, with the words David Brown. A guy named Elmer hangs out there, lives in Canada and worked at DB dealerships for years, sell manuals, parts, etc. Tom

I have walked away at 6000. dollars for the same style of tractor, and the same problems here in Kentucky. The dealer finally auctioned it.

I love them, and the price sounds like a steal to me. Parts are getting hard to come by, but their are a few salvage yards that specialize in them.

With that said the 3 pt is a source of constant aggervation on them and yes, a 3pt hitch problem can be a money pit.
