Photo of my kids showing at the Missouri State Fair. This is a 2-year old Angus cow with 7 month old bull calf.

Great to see teens doing things like that.. Hard work, discipline, and a sense of pride. If all teens had an opportunity to get involved in worthwhile projects, there would be a lot less troubles in our country.

Very nice looking cattle. You and your family have every right to be proud. I'm sure they were looked upon as top quality by the judges.

Good for them, that"s how its supposed to be. I"m proud of them.

I was coming home last Friday night through Illinois, and because the toll road was shut down just east of the state line cause of rain the night before, had to take some back roads. And because of rain down there too, had to keep turning down more and more back roads cause were baracaded off because of high waters. This dirt road, that dirt road, forgot my wallet and fuel money back in my work truck setting far west, had a 1/2 tank and was headed far southeast and needed to be going northeast towards Michigan. Ended up going by the Will County fair in Peotone, and it was sure rocking and rolling, but was sure trying to get home to my family, and it sure did take hours longer as it was. But as I was going by my heart was aching to pull in and take a walk through the livestock areas to see what somebody"s kids proudly achieved, and gosh dang they should be proud, each and every last one of them, as should their parents. If I"d had a wallet and more time. Was glad to make it home on fumes at 1Am and not use the cell to wake anyone up to come get me, and my labrador was waiting at the door and a plate by the microwave when I got there. Didn"t have to wake anyone up. Family counts for most everything in my book.

You and yor kids done well. Congratulations to you and them from me and mine.

Keith I will be 66 in Nov. to give you an idea how long it has been. I showed some Fat Calves at the Ozark Empire Fair in Springfield, but have showed a pot load of hogs at the Missouri State Fair. It is an experence your boys will never forget, not to mention what they will learn. In those days we came to the fair on Sat and were there until the next sat, in stead of 3 days for each breed.

Now that brings back a few memories. My two Daughters both showded beef cattle at the Fair here, near San Diego. One year one of them took grand champion. The cattle came from Lewistown Montana. Stan

Hi Keith -

Thanks for the pics. Is there more of a crowd the other direction from the way the picture is facing??

When I was a kid seemed like the whole entire community turned out for the fair and it was all quilts women had made, canning stuff they had put up, giant pumpkins, 100 lb watermelons, dozens of types of exotic poultry, and of course all the livestock, etc. Really great times...

Seems like now it is more commercial exhibits, gaming booths asking for money at every turn, and lot less of the things people actually produced themselves...

I guess everything is changing.

I try to make either the Oklahoma State Fair or the Texas State Fair almost every year, anyway.

After waiting a year at a time, there sure is nothing else to compare to a genuine Corny Dog with a big Fair lemonade!!

Howard
