Regular plain old 30w oil is what I always use, seems harder to find now then in years past.

The JD operators manual calls for straight 30 weight oil. I switched from the recommended 30 weight to 10W-40 in a H Farmall once and it started smoking and using oil. Switched back to 30 and it stopped.

When worked on my neighbors B I used fram part number C139PL and 15W40 for oil. For a mower the best match would be a number 5 plenty of them out there and you can find them cheap and in good working condition.

A John Deere number 5 mower with the brackets to fit the B works well.

I think the oil should be 10w40 or any heavy duty all season engine oil. I cannot remember the oil filter number, but you can look it up on www.fram.com Fram filters are good. Or you can go to a parts store and they will look it up for you.

Andy.
