I have a mature Basswood tree with a rather large woodpecker hole about 4' from the ground. It looks like it's still an "active" site. What can I use to plug the hole & hopefully send the birds elsewhere?

Thank you, Glenn F.

I have a electric transmission line across my property with 50 ft. creosote treated poles. The wood peckers have eaten several poles that years ago cost $700. The power company has tried concrete, and sheet metal patches, didn't work. About 10 years ago wraped hardware cloth, wire mesh, looks like it worked. There was no insects, one theory was that the poles were on a solid rock and elect. caused a slight vibration that the birds could sense as a food source.

The woodpeckers are doing you a favor apparently there is a rotten spot with bugs or termites in the tree the 'peckers will get them and move on if the tree isn't totally infested in which case its a gonner

Just to prove that the Human Race is not the only one plagued with tree huggers, I have a Wood Pecker who routinely beats on out steel basketball pole! "Save a tree..."

The woodpeckers are after the bugs in the wood. Get rid of the bugs and the woodpeckers will go away on their own.

The presence of the bugs may mean that the tree is about done for anyway, wood peckers or no woodpeckers.

You could use Motar Mix as I do but if the Tree has "Bugs" they will go to another area and do it again and I do not have an answer for that. We have problems with Cactus Wrens drilling Holes in our Saguaro Cactuses and there seems no solution short of trying to exterminate the Wrens and I won't do that. Seems as fast as you plug a Hole they make another.
